Bucks Food Calendar: Feb 19, 2018

Fritz's Bakery

President’s Day. It started as a celebration of George Washington’s birthday on February 22, but in the 1970s, the holiday was moved to the third Monday in February to create more three-day weekends.

Well thank you George Washington, and for those of you who can actually enjoy a three-day weekend, here’s a look at what’s going on in Bucks County…keep scrolling for more foodie events and upcoming activities.

A Taste of Cacao: The Mount Vernon Way

Mercer Museum

To celebrate President’s Day, join food historian Susan McLellan Plaisted in the Mercer Museum’s Log House as she prepares cacao tea and chocolate in celebration of George Washington’s birthday. The tasting starts at 11 am and ends at 3 pm, and it’s included with museum admission.

Bowman's Specials

While some establishments are closed today, President’s Day, Bowman’s will remain open until 3 pm. They will reopen at 4 pm on Tuesday, February 20. What can you expect from Bowman’s this season? In addition to their weekly and weekend specials, they have Taco Tuesdays every Tuesday in their Tavern, for $9 you can enjoy tacos and hornitos margaritas for $6 (from 11:30 am – 6 pm).

Fresh local milk on sale

Milk from Shady Brook Farm

Ever wonder what real milk tastes like? You’re in luck; Bucks County has some great dairy farms, and places like Shady Brook Farm have fresh, glass-bottled milk for sale. It’s hormone free, creamy and delicious!

If you notice milk prices going up (and up) at chain grocery stores, consider shopping at the farm: half-gallon of whole, 2%, and skim milk are now just $2.60 (from $2.99), and half-gallon of their chocolate milk has been reduced to $2.99 (from $3.99). During the month of February, you can also get 50% off produce when you buy glass bottled milk.

Booze and Board games

Drinks at Hops Scotch dram & barrel
The third Tuesday of each month Hops/Scotch hosts its “Booze and Board Games” at Main Street Marketplace in Doylestown. They encourage everyone to come play the board games with friends and other fellow community members. Bring your own game or join a group of like-minded individuals and play with the house games. The event starts at 6 pm, call 267.576.7980 for more information.

National Sticky Bun Day

Fritz's Bakery
We know that there’s a “national” holiday behind almost anything these days, but this Wednesday is National Sticky Bun Day — and that’s something we can get behind! At Fritz’s Bakery in Langhorne/Bensalem, PA you can get $2 off any dozen of sticky buns.

“You know what sticky buns taste like. Try to imagine what it smells like when 30 pans of buns are coming out of the oven at once.” — In honor of National Sticky Bun Day, here’s a look into one of the oldest sticky bun sales in the area! They will be baking them at the Central Bucks Senior Center next week, starting Tuesday, February 27.

JUST ADDED!

And now for something a little different…

Join us on Sunday, March 4 for

A Salon at Liberty Hall Pizza

Liberty Hall Pizza Collage

What is a “salon”?
A place where people discuss interesting topics of the day and enjoy each other’s company.

My father taught history and social studies to high school students for over 35 years. I was raised at a dinner table that was full of lively discussion, learning and laughter.

To this day, I love listening to intelligent people who bring me new perspectives and knowledge. And giving my two cents too, of course.

Some say that true dialogue is non-existent in America today. That may be. But we’re going to try something a little different for our next Bucks County Taste Dinner Club.

Delicious food, interesting people and fun discussion. Interested? Click here to see the topics we’ve chosen and the full menu.

SAVE THE DATES!
