Thanksgiving: Reprise

Surfing, MSClipArtYes, I was lolling about over the long weekend, as it seemed most of you were too – if I go by the number of hits Bucks County Taste got. Since we did our Thanksgiving meal the week before, we were really relaxed on actual Thanksgiving, especially since we decided to treat ourselves and go to Marsha Brown’s for the holiday meal with my parents.

It was my parents’ first time at the New Hope landmark so we purposely gave them the seats so they could gaze at the room, with its high ceilings and beautiful murals. Marsha Brown was offering a three-course prix fixe meal at $49.95 per person, a great deal and generous portions.

For starters, I chose the Lobster, Shrimp and Crawfish Bisque and Mark got the Gumbo Ya Ya. Both were, well, yummy. For entrees, I went for the Duck and Andouille Sausage Jambalaya, of which half went home for Friday’s appetizers by the fireplace. Mark, Mom and Dad all decided on the Oven Roasted Turkey with Corn Bread Andouille and Chestnut Stuffing with gravy and cranberry sauce. The delicious side dishes were served family style and included creamed spinach, smashed garlic bliss potatoes, green beans with bleu cheese and bacon and, my absolute favorite, butter baked mashed sweet potatoes. Desserts were also a hard choice: Crème Brulee, Pumpkin Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream or Chocolate Sin Cake. We all took one and shared!

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the service: professional, knowledgeable and warm. Our waiter, Mike, has been with the restaurant for five years, almost since its opening, working his way through all positions, up to wait staff. He clearly enjoys working at the restaurant and has even worked the Thanksgiving meals before. There is also a real team atmosphere, and an ease among the staff that I like. While the team service was a little slower than usual, it encouraged us to relax and enjoy the meal a bit more.

Just an FYI, Marsha Brown is still offering their Celebration Menu a $69.95, prix fixe three-course dinner for two available any time except Saturdays or holidays. They’ve also started offering lunch in their lounge, Wednesdays through Sundays from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm. Mark says their bar/lounge also deserves to be in our next Bars We Like installment. Check back.
