11 things you gotta do in Bucks this weekend (October 6 – 9)

The sad part about summer coming to an end is when farmers markets close up for the season. This weekend, if the weather is pleasant, grab your favorite eco-friendly bag and stuff it full of seasonal produce. Say farewell to one of Bucks County’s summer markets this weekend, and be sure to check out what other farmers markets have in store before the winter comes. Don’t just stop your weekend activities with the farmers market trip! There is plenty to eat in Bucks this weekend.

1. Lower Makefield Farmers’ Market

The weather is looking nice this week, just in time for the final Lower Makefield Farmers Market. There is much in store for you, including Nina’s Waffles Truck and fresh, local honey from Guzikowski farm. Vendors that will be in attendance include: Apple Ridge Farm, Davidson’s Exotic Mushrooms, Promised Land Natural Farm, Right Eats, and a few others.

Pick up produce like radishes, kale, kohlrabi, broccoli, chicken, eggs, baked goods, and more. Reminder: this is the last week to use your market dollars. Also, the market will be giving out a small gift to all customers who come this week.

2. What Do You Bring to the Table? & Bring Something to the Table

Thursday, October 6, 6 – 9 pm, Chimayo Gallery & Gift Shop, 21 N. 7th St. Perkasie, PA

Writer and blogger Jeannette Moser-Orr is facilitating a thought-provoking event at the Chimayo Gallery & Gift Shop this Thursday, October 6. Participants will share stories about food rituals that are significant to them, and the goal is to unlock ideas about creating moments to sustain food-related memories and respecting food traditions. The price of the event is $25 but it covers both sessions; the next one is on October 13.

3. Beer Tasting: Oktoberfest Beers

Friday, October 7, 5 – 11 pm, The Washington House, 136 N. Main Street, Sellersville, PA

4. Foodie First Friday

Looking for a new restaurant in downtown Doylestown? This Friday, October 7, is Foodie First Friday, a monthly event that celebrates culture, community and cuisine. Many of the restaurants have specials for the celebration so try a restaurant you’ve never been to, or stop by your usual place and enjoy your favorites. 5. Elton John Tribute Show & Dinner

Tickets are now on sale for an evening with Elton John at the Plumsteadville Inn. Come see Lee Alverson perform his tribute to Elton John, and enjoy a delicious meal while you listen to the music. Tickets must be purchased in advance and they are $70 per person. Doors open at 5:45 pm, dinner promptly starts at 6:30 pm, and the show starts at 8 pm. Dinner choices include: sliced filet, chicken parmesan, crab cakes, or pasta a la vodka.

Also, stop by the inn for happy hour from 4 – 6 pm. Receive $1 off drinks and half-priced appetizers.

6. Moonlit Fun

It’s time for some moonlit activities down at the farm. Head to The Market at DelVal for some “Moonlit Fun,” an evening filled with cheery bonfires, a giant corn maze walk at dark, and a moonlit wagon ride. There’s also live music on Friday nights. 7. Autumn Cabaret

Listen to songs from Broadway and Gilbert & Sullivan Society, accompanied by Lee Milhous on piano and musicians from the Gilbert & Sullivan orchestra. While you are listening to music, snack on desserts and beverages. Tickets are $18 at the door, and there is a discount for online sales.

8. Harvest Festival 2016

Saturday, October 8 and Sunday, October 9, 12 – 6 pm, Crossing Vineyards and Winery, 1853 Wrightstown Rd., Washington Crossing, PA

There will be wine tastings by the glass and bottles available to purchase. Case discounts are available as well. There is also a specialty harvest pairing offered this weekend only.

Enjoy a glass of mulled apple wine served with cheeses, cured meats and chocolates. Cost is $20 per person. This event is part of the Bucks County Wine Trail. Book your speciality harvest pairing online and receive a discount.

9. Breakfast

Enjoy some classic breakfast foods this Sunday at the Silverdale Fire Co., including pancakes, sausage, french toast, eggs, ham, potatoes, and dried beef. 10. Autumn Summer Cookout

Sunday, October 9, 3:30 – 7 pm, Lumberville General Store, 3741 River Rd., Lumberville, PA

Fall is here, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a nice outdoor cookout. Head to the Lumberville General Store for an autumn summer cookout, with a menu that includes Manoff Market Gardens apples and cider. This is a BYOB event, and there will be giant Jenga, cornhole and bocce ball on the lawn. Cost for adults is $19.95, and for kids $9.95.

The menu includes:

  • Cider-Braised Pulled Pork
  • Grilled Turkey Burgers
  • Cedar Plank Salmon Bratwurst with Green Apple and Sauerkraut
  • Stuffed Acorn Squash with Quinoa, Spinach and Feta

11. Penfold’s Wine Dinner

Sunday, October 9, 7 – 9 pm, Yardley Inn, East Afton Avenue, Yardley, PA

The Yardley Inn is hosting a wine dinner this Sunday, October 9 at 7 pm featuring Penfold wines. Penfold’s is one of Australia’s oldest and most iconic wineries, and the inn will perfectly pair some of its collections of wines with the meals. The dinner costs $200 per person plus tax and gratuity.

The full menu includes:

  • Oysters with accompaniments
  • Squab soup in the style of Waleski with madeira chicken consommé with egg custard, served with Riesling
  • Hors D’Oeuvre: Chestnut and truffle timbale, served with Bin 9 Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Fish: Striped bass in the style of long branch, coated in a thick crayfish sauce, dredged in breadcrumbs & fried flounder in the style of Jules Janin, stuffed & glazed flounder with oysters & truffle, served with Bin 389 Cabernet-Shiraz
  • Entreés: Tenderloin of venison in the style of Lorenzo, with mushroom, truffle, olives & chestnuts sweetbreads, layered with stuffing and garnished with a tomato béarnaise peas with veloute baked potato puree with ham, served with Grange 2006
