Apples are beginning to ripen in local orchards in a big way. Solebury Orchards says it’s a good year for apples (yay!). In Bucks County, apple season begins late summer and continues through mid-November.

Here’s a listing of apple farms in Bucks and nearby that either offer pick-your-own or apples for sale as of  September 18, 2015. Always call or check their websites for the latest information. Enjoy!

Bechdolt’s Orchard, 2209 Leithsville Road, Hellertown, PA, 610.838.8522. Apple varieties available through the season: Autumn Crisp, Braeburn, Cameo, Cortland, Empire, Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith, Honey Crisp, Jonagold, Jonathan, McIntosh, Macoun, Mutsu, Pink Lady, Red and Golden Delicious, Rome, Stayman Winesap, York. No PYO; Friday and Saturday hours 8 am – 7 pm; Sunday – Thursday 8 am – 6 pm.

Manoff Market Gardens, 3157 Comfort Road, Solebury, PA, 215.297.8220. Manoff’s grows 23 varieties of apples beginning late summer into mid-November (and because they keep so well, they sell them through January). Coming this week: Honey Crisp, Ginger Gold, Gala, Cortland, Jonathan, Crimson Crisp.

Peace Valley Winery, 300 Old Limekiln Road, Chalfont, PA, 215.249.9058. Pick-your-own begins September 19: Red and Golden Delicious, MacIntosh. PYO $1.20/lb. Open 12 pm – 6 pm.

Penn Vermont Fruit Farm, 831 Rolling Hills Road, Bedminster, PA, 215.795.2475.  Apple varieties available through the season: Cortland, Empire, McIntosh, Jonagold, Golden Delicious, Honey Crisp.

Shady Brook Farm, 931 Stony Hill Road, Morrisville, PA, 215.968.1670. Pick-your-own available as of 9/18: Gala, Cortland, Golden Delicious Apples. PYO $1.29/lb

Snipes Farm and Education Center, 890 West Bridge Street, Morrisville, PA, 215.295.1139. One of Bucks County’s oldest farms, Snipes is now being run by the 11th generation. Apple varieties: Gala, Honey Crisp, Fuji, Jonathan, Red Delicious, Ida Red, Romes. PYO on weekends only.

Solebury Orchards, 3325 Creamery Road, New Hope, PA, 215.297-8079. This week (Sept 17-20) Honey Crisp and Crimson Crisp are ripe. Check their Apple Harvest Chart to see when the different varieties are ready for picking. Open Thursday through Sunday.

Solly Farm, 707 Almshouse Road, Warminster, PA, 215.357.2850.  Pick-your-own available as of 9/18: Jonathan and Golden Delicious. Open weekends, PYO 9 am – 4 pm.

Styer’s Orchard, 97 Styer Lane, Langhorne, PA, 215.702.9633. Apple varieties available through the season: Cortland, Empire, Jonathan, Early Delicious, Gala and Red Delicious, Mutsu, Golden Delicious, Jonagold. Open 9 am – 5 pm.

Tabora Farm & Orchard, 1104 Upper Stump Road, Chalfont, PA, 215.249.3016. Apple varieties available through the season: McIntosh, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Cortland, Macoun, Gingergold, Gala, Honey Crisp. $0.99/lb. Apple Festival, September 26 & 27, 2015.

Terhune Orchards, 330 Cold Soil Road, Princeton, NJ, 609.924.2310. Apple varieties available through the season: Honey Crisp, Jonamac , Early Fuji, Macoun, McIntosh, Jonathan, Cortland, Empire, Red Delicious, Prestine, Gingergold, to name a few. Terhune Orchards grows 34 varieties of apples! PYO daily 9 am – 5 pm at their 13 Van Kirk Road farm.

The Market at DelVal, 2100 Lower State Road, Doylestown, PA, 215.230.7170. Pick-your-own: a variety of apples grown at their farm, Shady Brook, or on the campus of Delaware Valley University.
