Peaches, corn, tomatoes and fresh cocktails. And cool weather in August! Does it get any better?
Have you ever liked the taste of something so much, you just couldn’t get enough of it? That’s been me with sweet summer peaches. One week I think I had one every day for breakfast! This weekend is packed with peaches including two Bucks County peach festivals.
Sorry to interrupt your day but this message is brief: You can now pick your own watermelons.
You can also buy local, fresh watermelon at certain farmers markets in the area, but at Peace Valley Winery, you can pick-your watermelons as the fields open today, August 3 at 10 am. The price is […]

In my newsletter last month, I wrote an article about what I call the Summer Trinity—three foods that epitomize summer for me: sweet corn, peaches and tomatoes. Nothing makes me think of summer more than the taste of these foods freshly picked. This recipe—a simple and tasty one from
One of the best things about summer is the leisurely pace. As the heat picks up, the days seem to slow down, bringing with them a sense of relaxation. This week’s food events match that leisurely pace. There’s nothing out of the ordinary on the calendar for Monday through Friday… just the usual. But the […]

I am still very much in vacation mode, despite the fact that vacation officially ended last week. As I sit here, staring at the aftermath of our trip—a gigantic pile of laundry and a few extra pounds on my hips—I completely lack the motivation to tackle either;
It’s apple season! And we are so fortunate in Bucks to have some fantastic orchards here. Here’s a rundown of what’s growing, picking and crunching, and where, followed by my mother’s superb Jewish Apple Cake recipe.
Solebury Orchards is picking Gala, Elstar, and the first Honey Crisp apples now. The Honey Crisp crop […]
At the risk of being corny (get it?), I keep wanting to break into song. Rodgers & Hammerstein, of course. “Oh what a beautiful mo-o-ornin’, oh what a beautiful d-a-ay…” or “…the corn is as high as an elephant’s eye!” (Both lines actually written here in Bucks, at Hammerstein’s place, Highland Farm, on […]
I never used to like peaches. It was the fuzz. Gave me the chills. But somewhere along the way I got over it. And Fairview Farm peaches certainly helped. They are now in season and available in their farm market store in Pineville. They don’t have a website but they are just down Pineville Road […]

Remember this Seinfeld episode?
Kramer: Well, they’re in…
Jerry: What’s in?
Kramer: The Macanaw peaches, Jerry! The Macanaw peaches!
Jerry: Ah, right. The ones from Oregon that are only ripe for two weeks a year…
Kramer: Yeah…I […]
The potluck supper begins at 6:30pm and is followed at 7:30pm by the farmer-guided tour of one of the area’s premier small farms. There is no charge […]
The forecast may not be sunny this weekend, but it is cooler and things are still happening. Kind of a relief after all the heat and humidity, and a nice taste of fall.
Alert to any backyard farmers currently overrun with tomatoes, zucchinis and squashes. Carousel Gardens, on Route 413/Durham Road just north […]
It’s been a busy week. We were thrilled at the wonderful article this past Wednesday by Betty Cichy in the Bucks County Courier Times /Intelligencer about Bucks County Taste. We were even more blown away by the site “hits” we got. Those of you who checked us out for the first time – thank […]

I know I’ve said it before, but it’s really here. Summer, that is. The first local corn is coming in (none of that Su’thun stuff). I know for sure you can get some at None Such Farm Market. Be on the look-out at your local farms and stores, and let me know where […]
