Since there were rumors this winter that the Springtown Farmers’ Market might not reappear, I was thrilled to learn that “news of their death was premature,” to paraphrase an old expression.
Two new managers this season, Joan Pavlica and Megan Melick, will split their focus. Ms. Pavlica will run the market and Ms. Melick will concentrate on marketing and developing the market which is due to open on May 20th and at a new day and time, Thursdays, from 4 to 7 pm. The market will run through September 30th.
The market, like others of its kind in Bucks, aims to support local farmers and food producers and promote local, sustainable food. Last year’s products ranged from grass-pastured beef from Meadow Brook Farms (Springtown), pastries from Rolling Pin Pastries (Kintersville), local produce and fruit from Trauger’s (Kintersville), Tall Pine Farms (Rushland) and Windy Springs Farm (Quakertown), and many others.
This Tuesday, April 6th, the Springtown Farmers’ Market Advisory Board is hosting its annual Vendor Meet and Greet in the social hall of the Springtown Fire Company in Springtown at 7 pm. They encourage potential market vendors, artisans and performing artists from the greater Springfield Township area to come meet the new market managers. RSVP for the event by calling 610.346.6700, ext. 23 or emailing info@springtownfarmersmarket@gmail.com.
