Hey Bucks County foodies! Tomorrow is Small Business Saturday, an opportunity to buy great, local food for the holiday season.
American Express came up with the idea in 2010 as a way to counteract Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and encourage shoppers to spend their holiday dollars at local brick-and-mortar stores.
Whether you’re looking for gifts, or ingredients for your holiday dishes, consider visiting these independently-owned, local food stores.
The Doylestown Food Co-op carries fresh, healthy, organic produce, meats, dairy, coffee, baked goods and more, much of which is sourced within 50 miles of Bucks County. Although you receive benefits as a member of the co-op, anyone can shop at the store at 29 West State Street in Doylestown. See their website for more information.
Organnon’s Natural Market is also a great place to buy local, organic, non-GMO food, groceries and personal care items (nice gift idea!). The store is in Carousel Village (next to oWowCow) in Wrightstown, just north of Newtown. Here’s their website and Facebook page.
Milk House Farm Market is open year-round providing produce, honey, milk, locally-roasted coffee, eggs and meat from area farms as well as from Milk House Farm. You will also find them at the Stockton Market on the weekends. Their handmade soaps make a great gift item too. See their website for more information.
Kimberton Whole Foods is also a great place for organic produce, humanely-raised meats, raw dairy, baked goods, supplements and biodynamic body care, and general organic groceries. They also have a nice selection of gourmet cheeses and cured meats. While you’re there, stop in at the Brig O’Doon Coffeehouse, housed in the same building, for delicious baked goods and good coffee. You’ll find Kimberton in Ottsville, and at their website here.
Another way to support your local food establishments is to buy a gift certificate for their favorite restaurant. Many area restaurants are offering these so just take your pick.
Looking for a really unique food gift for the person who has everything? Get them a gift certificate from the Bucks County Dinner Club. The dinner club holds fun, unique and delicious events at local restaurants and area venues. It’s a great way to meet new people and try out new restaurants. And did I mention it is a lot of fun? It really is. Find out more about the Bucks County Dinner Club here. If you are interested in purchasing a gift certificate, email us at info@BucksCountyTaste.com.
Thanks so very much to Lynne and Bucks County Taste for letting people know about the amazing grocery store sourcing local products that IS the Doylestown Food Co-op! We are so grateful for all of the tremendous information shared by this blog and website throughout the year regarding local food!
