What’s up this week, foodies? Lots of delicious events at Bucks County restaurants, wineries, farms and firehouses, that’s what.
Cooking classes. You may notice many new additions to our calendar in the coming months featuring Bucks County cooking classes – all over the place. The Cooking Cottage in Sellersville has a full schedule this fall, as does Carlow Cookery in Doylestown (I still have to load up their November and December offerings). I’ve also added all the culinary courses being offered through the New Hope/Solebury Community School, most of which take place at the New Hope-Solebury High School. There are also a few being conducted at The Market by Shady Brook Farm at Del Val College through Doylestown Township Parks and Recreation Department. And…at the Kitchen Garden Cooking School, Sheila McDuffie takes you through her garden, greenhouse and kitchen on her organic farm in Upper Black Eddy and teaches a wide variety of cultural cuisines in the process.
Eating for a good cause. There are also a number of food-related fundraisers this week. How about the 1st Annual Country Picnic in Plumsteadville (Sunday), being hosted by the Plumstead Historical Society? Proceeds go towards saving the Danboro Community Building (circa 1889). There will be food, family-fun, historic displays, and a silent auction all taking place at the Plumsteadville Firehouse.
Or, also on Sunday, eat spaghetti at New Hope’s Tuscany at the Towpath to raise funds for St. Phillip’s Church of New Hope. Afterwards, go eat ice cream scooped by local “celebrities” at the CB Cares Celebrity Scoopers at Chubby’s in Plumsteadville. A portion of the sales go to help support CB Cares’ parent and youth programs. CB Cares is also hosting another program on Saturday, Family Dinner ROCKS! at the Moose Lodge in Doylestown. Jamie Hollander is doing the catering.
I just found out about another fundraiser happening on Sunday in Perkasie. This one is a farm to table dinner being prepared by none other than Chef Michael Solomonov of the award-winning Center City restaurant, Zahav. This Sukkot Harvest Supper (in celebration of the Jewish harvest festival, Sukkot) will benefit Hazon, America’s largest Jewish environmental organization. The ingredients for the five-course meal will come mostly from organic food pioneers Judy and Mark Dornstreich’s idyllic Branch Creek Farm. For info and to RSVP, call (215) 625-8800 or visit www.zahavrestaurant.com.
The Third Annual Dine Around the Manor takes place on Thursday, September 30, to benefit Pennsbury Manor in Morrisville. Enjoy a progressive dinner with food and drinks served in various buildings around the picturesque 43-acre site. There will be music, a basket raffle and a live and silent auction as well.
For more details on any of these events, please go to our full calendar, Food Events in Bucks County. Be sure to keep up with Bucks County food also on Facebook and Twitter. Have a lovely weekend.
