This seems to be the weekend to drink.
The 6th Annual Original Newtown Brewfest (the “other” Newtown Brewfest) is happening this Saturday, October 22nd at the Newtown Swim Club. Over 175 beers and select wines will be available along with food from local eateries. See their website for more info. In Upper Bucks, it’s Quakertown Alive! Grapes n’ Hops Brewfest. This food, beer and wine festival takes place at the Quakertown train station from 2 pm to 6 pm, also on this Saturday. It’s part of a larger celebration in Quakertown called Autumn Alive! Sounds like fun, and the weather will be cool, crisp and sunny.
On Thursday, October 27, the drinking – and eating – continues at Earl’s Bucks County with their Tasty Thursday series of special dinners. This one will pair Australia’s Mollydooker wines with five courses of fine food. Check out the menu at their website and call 215.794.4020 for reservations.
Jamie Hollander Gourmet Foods will be hosting their 2nd Annual Harvest Festival. This should be fun with small plate tastings of their new Bistro menu (to open in November) and samplings from local artisan purveyors, as well as music and gourmet products for sale.
To market, to market. Even though there’s a chill in the air, most local farmers’ markets and farm stands are still open for business with beautiful fall produce – greens, leeks and onions, potatoes, squashes, eggplant and more. Also you can pick up some free-range eggs and pastured meat too. Ah, the bounty that is Bucks County.
