Wow. I love this time of year. There is SO much going on. And it’s going to be a beautiful weekend too. Where to start?
The Guapos Tacos Truck – of Chef Jose Garces fame – will be at the Ottsville Farmers’ Market today (Friday) from 4 – 8 pm. Get there early if you can. It always draws a crowd!
Saturday brings two annual treats. Carversville Day is an old-fashioned village fair with a pet parade, kids’ activities, crafters and good food – including a cookie contest (see our post from a few years ago). Springfest in Perkasie is also a really local event, taking place in Perkasie Old Towne and featuring both a BBQ contest and a pie contest! There will be music, crafts, kids’ stuff and more food too.
Nina’s Waffles, formerly in the Stockton Market, has opened up their own location in New Hope and teamed up with oWowCow Creamery. Imagine traditional Liege Belgian waffles – made from dough, not batter – with a caramelized sugar crispy coating, topped with oWowCow ice cream. Oh my. Louis Zanias, the creator of Nina’s Waffles, was born in Greece and grew up in Belgium. For many years his passion and dream has been to bring the Liege waffle to the States. Of course, you can get lots of other toppings too, like the Garden Berries Waffle Sundae pictured here. Nina’s is having their grand opening this Sunday, May 20th. You’ll find them at 31 West Mechanic Street in New Hope, open 7 days a week with extended hours on weekends.
To market, to market. This week sees the opening of two more farmers’ markets. The Perkasie Farmers’ Market will take place on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm in Perkasie Old Towne, near the intersection of 7th and Market Streets. And the Hunterdon Land Trust Farmers’ Market, now in its 6th year, begins its season this Sunday in Flemington, NJ. See their website for more details and a list of vendors.
You’ll find lots of beautiful spring greens at local markets this week, along with strawberries. Speaking of strawberries, if you are interested in picking your own, see our post from last year of PYO farms in Bucks County. Also, Blooming Glen Farm is hosting a canning class on Saturday on making strawberry vanilla jam. See the calendar below for all the farmers’ markets now open.
