Bucks Food Calendar: March 26, 2014

So much to eat and drink, so little time. This week is full of food events, from fish fry dinners, to wine “boot camp,” to meeting the new “kids on the block” and making cheese. Here are the highlights.

Gourmet GetawayGourmet GetawayTomorrow evening, Thursday, March 27, is the 21st Anniversary of the Gourmet Getaway-Cuisine for a Cause, a delicious event that benefits the Women in Business Scholarship Fund of the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce. Dozens of local restaurants, wineries, bakeries, chefs and more will be offering tasty morsels. It’s only $45 per person and all proceeds go to the scholarship fund, giving local women education money to gain the knowledge they need to re-enter the workforce. The event takes place at the Spring Mill Manor in Ivyland. Click here to purchase tickets.

It’s spring! Two fun events this weekend will help you get in the mood for local food. “Designing Your Herb Garden with Kathy Lyons” is taking place on this Saturday at Blue Moon Acres Market & Farm in Pennington, NJ. After a hands-on review of herb varieties and a presentation of best growing practices, Kathy will pass out the graph paper and help you plan your kitchen herb garden. A tour of the farm’s herb garden will round out the experience. Go here to register.

Flint Hill Farm goatsFlint Hill Farm, just north of Quakertown, is celebrating the “New Kids on the Block” — that is, their newest batch of goat babies. There will be a party and cheese making classes for the family. Call Kathy Fields at 610.838.2928 to sign up for the cheese making class.

Spaghetti, fish, steak and pancakes. Well, not all together. That’s just some of the community meals you can attend this week. On Saturday, the Doylestown Masonic Lodge will hold their annual Spaghetti Dinner and the Salem United Church will do up their annual Steak Dinner. See the calendar below for more details.

Friday evening there are Fish Fry Dinners at the firehouse in Riegelsville and in Lambertville at the Columbia Fire Company. On Sunday, the Haycock Fire Company holds their monthly Firehouse Breakfast.

At the wineries. Tomorrow evening at 7 pm Old York Cellars will present another of their Virtual Vines event. During this live webcast winemaker Scott Gares and sommelier Laurin Dorman will discuss the history of the grapes, winemaking techniques, and food pairing ideas. For more information, and how to participate from home, see their website.

How good is your tongue? Sign up for “Bootcamp for Your Tastebuds” at Villa Milagro Vineyards this Saturday and learn to discern fruit and other flavor notes, tannins, acids, and oaks in wine. Discover how to taste “terroir”, smell sulfur, and recognize chemical changes in wine responsible for “off” flavors. The vineyard is in Finesville, NJ, north of Milford. For more information, see their website.

riedel_tasting_setIf you haven’t tasted wine in Riedel crystal glasses, you’re in for a treat this Sunday. Crossing Vineyards holds a workshop every few months to do just that. “Wine Tasting in Riedel Crystal” includes instruction, wine tasting, a Riedel Tasting Kit (retail value $125.00) and a special discount on any other Riedel purchase: Buy-One-Get-One 50% Off! Cost is $99 per person. Register and buy tickets here.
