How nice to sit on a summer evening, enjoying a glass of wine. Luckily there are many local vineyards hosting events this summer that make it easy to do so. Both Shady Brook Farm and the Market by Shady Brook at Del Val have music and wine from Rosebank Winery every Friday night. Hopewell Valley Vineyards in Pennington has music on Friday nights, Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Old York Cellars in Ringoes has music every Friday night “Under the Stars.” Chaddsford Winery’s Tasting Room in Peddler’s Village celebrates summer with Sangria Sundays every Sunday in July. Crossing Vineyards hosts a “Dummie’s Guide to Wine Tasting” this Sunday. Learn more about the Wines of Summer and Wine & Chocolate at two courses taking place at TASTE, Sand Castle Winery’s store in Warrington this Saturday, Sunday and Thursday. Want to sip your wine while traveling through beautiful Bucks County? The New Hope & Ivyland Railroad leaves from New Hope every Saturday and Sunday at 5 pm with a special trip – the Grapevine Express Wine & Cheese Pairing – aboard their steam locomotive. Alba Vineyards in Milford, NJ, is putting on a benefit, Music in the Vineyard, this Sunday for the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice Foundation featuring live music and wine tasting. Gate admission is $20 for adults 17 and older, 16 and younger are free. For 21 and older this includes six wine tasting tickets and an etched Alba Vineyard stemless wine glass.
Speaking of wine, we had a chance to try the new wine bar, Trompa, across from Bobby Simone’s in Doylestown a couple of weeks ago. Fun and tasty tapas menu and quite an extensive wine list (I was a little intimidated!). Nice atmosphere – we sat upstairs where there is also an outdoor deck. Interesting selection of craft beers and cocktails as well. Menu was a little pricey but you’re getting stuff that is a little out of the ordinary too.
To market, to market. Here’s what this week’s harvest is expected to be at area farmers’ markets: Peaches! Sweet corn, heirloom tomatoes, green beans, potatoes, basil, eggplant, fennel, sunflowers and fresh flower bouquets, fresh garlic, spring onions, berries, cucumbers, celery, cabbages, patty pan squash, zucchini, yellow squash, red beets, Asian turnips, kohlrabi, kale, lettuces, chard, broccoli, bok choy, tat soi, collards, radishes, mushrooms, dill, parsley, cilantro and other herbs. Most markets will also have pasture raised meats, eggs, baked goods, cheese and more.
