Despite downpours today, the weather for the weekend doesn’t look half bad, with a chance of rain tomorrow and a beautiful day on Sunday. Perfect weather for farmers’ markets, driving around and Peach Festivals.
Manoff Market Gardens, known for a wide selection of fruits and their varieties, hosts their annual Peach Festival this Saturday, August 11. They’ve got both white and yellow peaches, yellow nectarines and a second variety of white nectarines, as well as raspberries and blackberries. They’ve even picked their first apples – Ginger Gold – which are ten days early! The fun begins at 9:30 am. Here’s directions to the farm.
Not far from Manoff’s, you can also celebrate the peach at Peddler’s Village’s Annual Peach Festival. There will be various peach treats throughout the Village and a sidewalk sale too on both Saturday and Sunday.
The big news this week is the opening of the 64th Annual Middletown Grange Fair on Wednesday, August 15. The Grange Fair is Bucks County’s version of a state fair. Members of 4-H clubs vie for the ribbons for the best rabbits, chickens, goats, pigs, cows, sheep, horses and…well, lots of other critters. In addition, prizes are given for everything from vegetables, eggs, handcrafts, art, photography, apiary products and, even, apple pie and chocolate cake. One of the highlights of the fair is their famous chicken dinner. The chicken is cooked outside on big grills and volunteers work hard in the kitchen to complete the dinner with corn on the cob, potatoes, tomatoes and cranberry relish. It’s the best food at the fair (the rest is mostly junk food, the kind you find at a lot of fairs). There’s rides, music and other entertainment – like “Mutts Gone Nuts” or “Hot Dog Pig Races” – as well as antique farm machinery and animal judging to watch. Admission is $10 per car per day or you can buy a 5-day pass for $30. The fair continues until Sunday, August 19. The fairgrounds are located on Penns Park Road between Routes 413 and 232 in Wrightstown. Click here for more information.
