Bucks Food Calendar: April 29, 2011

As I sit here, looking out the window at this lovely day, I wonder why I chose work that chains me to a computer. Ah, but this weekend. There is so much going on that my head is spinning. And the weather! Today, Friday, mostly sunny, with a high near 65°; Saturday, sunny, with a high near 69°; Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 73°. Perfecto!

Here are some of the highlights:

  • The Ottsville Farmers Market opens for the season on this afternoon. Join over twenty producers and artisans for another fun season of good food, family events. A great way to start the weekend!
  • The 4th Annual Bucks County Chocolate Show is Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. It’s where I will be, savoring gourmet chocolate and food. Watch for tweets and Facebook posts on Saturday. See our previous post for more information.
  • A-Day, the annual agriculture and family event at Delaware Valley College, begins on Friday and goes through the weekend. Great fun, tours, rides and exhibits. Make sure you have one of their milkshakes.
  • 42nd Annual Peddler’s Village Strawberry Festival will be happening in Lahaska from 10 am to 6 pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Food? You bet. Strawberries prepared in every way possible from chocolate-dipped, smoothies and fritters to shortcakes, pastries and pies. Pick up some fresh berries and jars of chunky preserves and Pennsylvania Dutch strawberry butters to take home. And let’s not forget about  the Strawberry Pie Eating Contests taking place each day at 3 pm on the Main Green.
  • Shad Fest starts on Saturday in Lambertville, and there’s more than shad to eat. Wander the streets looking at the works of great artisans munching on taco salads, fried calamari, hot dogs, fried oreos, hamburgers, fries, fresh lemonade and shad chowder (didn’t know there was such a thing, did you?)
  • After all that fish, you’ll need to quench your thirst with a nice cold one, or two, or three. Head to Quakertown for McCoole’s Beer Festival. The semi-annual fest starts at noon on Saturday and goes until 9 pm. Click here to see the selection of beer.

Coming up this week…the New Hope Farmers Market opens next Thursday, May 5th and the Wrightstown Farmers Market on Saturday, May 7th. Find the New Hope Market at a new location, right on Route 202, next to the Eagle Diner, in the New Hope Flea Market space.
