Bucks Food Calendar: April 20, 2012

Wine, beer, markets, farms and pancake breakfasts. That’s what’s happening in Bucks County this week!

Pancakes, if you please. As you may already know, I’m a big fan of firehouse breakfasts, of which we have many in Bucks County. But this Sunday I’ll be pouring coffee and serving up pancakes at my local Lingohocken Fire Company here in Wycombe. This is a once a year event and they really do it up. This family friendly event includes pancakes, French Toast, sausage, coffee, tea and juice. Kids will also have fun with free activity packets and fireman hats, as well as a chance to explore the Lingohocken Fire Department’s fire engines and tanker truck (I know some grown-ups that will like that too!). Cost for the event is $7.00 for a regular stack and $5.00 for a short stack and includes all beverages. All proceeds and donations go to support the activities of the Lingohocken Fire Company. See you there!

To market, to market. This Saturday morning the Doylestown Farmers’ Market opens for their 37th season with over two dozen vendors. Stop by for everything from produce to meats to eggs to baked goods and even dill pickles and locally foraged mushrooms. Next Friday afternoon, the Ottsville Farmers’ Market begins their season at Linden Hill Gardens. And on Saturday May 5 (just around the corner), the Wrightstown Farmers’ Market opens for the season. With our mild winter and early spring, look for more locally grown veggies early this year.

Eating for a good cause. If you need an excuse to go out to dinner, do it this Thursday, April 26 at one of the area restaurants participating in Dining Out for Life. How does it work? Participating restaurants donate 33% of the cost of your meal to the fight against HIV/AIDS. Dining Out for Life was founded in Philadelphia by ActionAIDS, and this year is its 22nd Anniversary. Some of the local restaurants participating: Bowman’s Tavern, Poco’s, The Raven and Rick’s in Lambertville.

Coming up. Next weekend is a busy one! Shad Fest 2012 takes place in Lambertville on Saturday and Sunday. Lots to eat there, and not just shad. Or stop by Delaware Valley College in Doylestown on Friday, Saturday or Sunday for A-Day. Great activities for the kids and don’t miss the milkshakes.
