Yes, Halloween is dominating the fall “headlines,” but there’s much more to eat and drink in Bucks County and nearby before Halloween. Enjoy some harvest festivals, wine dinners and more this weekend.
1. Apple FEST
Sat, Oct 24, 9 am – 1 pm, Wrightstown Farmers Market, 2203 2nd Street Pike, Wrightstown, PA 18940
The Wrightstown Farmers Market is celebrating apple season in a big way this Saturday, Oct 24. How about an Apple Tasting, where you can try up to 19 varieties of apples from Snipes Farm and Solebury Orchards? Or Caramel Apple Dipping?
There will also be free tastings of apple butter, apple cider and apple sauce. Many of the vendors will have special apple offerings. Apple Ridge Farm – Apple Hand Pie from Apple Ridge Farm, Mini Apple Pies from the Bucks County Cookie Company, Apple Butternut Squash Soup from Farmstead Foods and LUVH, Gluten-free Apple Walnut Cake from Philading, Apple Cider from Snipes Farm, and hot mulled cider and other apple goodies from Solebury Orchards. Solebury Orchards will also offer a dollar off a half peck of apples and 50 cents off a gallon of cider (while supplies last).
2. Organnons Apple Festival

Organnons Natural Market will hold its first annual Apple Festival at Carousel Village this weekend. They will have a “ton of apples” on sale, including some very unique heirloom apples. Vendors will offer samples of their apple goodies, and there will be a caramel apple dipping station as well!
3. Oktoberfest at Snipes Farm
Sat, Oct 24, 11 am – 7 pm, Snipes Farm & Education Center, 890 West Bridge Street, Morrisville, NJ
On Saturday, October 24, Snipes Farm & Education Center and Mommy’s Lil’ Black Book.com present a huge Oktoberfest at the farm. There will be lots of fall activities, including live entertainment, food trucks, a beer and wine garden (from 2 – 7 pm), inflatables, balloon art, face painting, characters, vendors (even German-inspired) and more.
Admission is $5 per person and includes hayrides to pick your own apples and pumpkins, farm tours, corn maze, playground fun and visits with farm animals. Pick-your-own apples and pumpkins can be purchased by the pound. The rain date will be Sunday, October 25.
4. Pumpkinfest 2015

Also on Sat, Oct 24, the long-standing beautiful tradition of Pumpkinfest continues amidst the archways of the Moravian Pottery & Tile Works, showcasing 18 area artists who carve out enormous 100- 300 lb pumpkin squash into glowing masterpieces. The process takes the artists up to six hours to sculpt, carve, and bring to life. The Trauger Family Farm in Kintnersville provides the enormous “prizewinner” pumpkins for the pumpkin gallery.
The event, a partnership between CB Cares Educational Foundation and the Bucks County Department of Parks and Recreation, benefits the Foundation and their work as an ATOD (alcohol, tobacco and other drugs) prevention organization. October is National Substance Abuse Prevention Month and October 25 – 31 is Red Ribbon Week for school-age children in our community. Both of these national initiatives emphasize the importance of avoiding drugs and alcohol. There will also be a Youth Pumpkin Gallery, the movie “Frankenweenie” (weather-permitting), amusements and food! Grounds open at 2 pm, $20 carload, until 10 pm.
5. Mushroom Walk & Tasting
Sat, Oct 24, 3:30 pm, Bucks County Audubon Society at Honey Hollow, 2877 Creamery Road, New Hope, PA
Wine and fungi! Walk in search of fungi around BCAS property lead by mycologist, Marion Kyde. After the walk, come inside for a mushroom tasting event with wine too. Mainly Mushrooms will prepare local and exotic mushrooms, with olive oils and bread provided by Olive-n-Grape. The walk begins at 3:30 pm, the tasting at 4:30 pm. Reservations are strongly encouraged. Walk only: $5 members/$10 non-members; Tasting only: $10 members/$15 non-members; Both: $15 members/$25 non-members. 6. Autumn Winemaker’s Dinner

Join Crossing Vineyards and Winery owners, Tom Carroll Sr., Christine Carroll and vintner Tom Jr., for an elegant five-course menu of American seasonal favorites paired with Crossing Vineyards’ wines. Winemaker Tom Carroll Jr. will discuss the highlights of the 2015 growing season. It will be a wine harvest celebration and a chance to learn more about pairing of food and wine, on Saturday, October 24.
The menu is something to celebrate, with the first course of flatbread with cranberries, crumbled bacon and smoked Gouda, and paired with Rosé; second course of roasted acorn squash stuffed with dried cranberries, toasted pecans, orange zest and brown rice, and paired with Riesling and Vidal Blanc. The third course is Cabernet-braised boneless beef short ribs with carrots, figs and onions, served over mashed Yukon gold potatoes, and paired with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Chambourcin Reserve. The fourth course is a selection of gourmet cheeses, paired with Legacy and Pinot Noir. The dessert will be pumpkin bread pudding with Chantilly crème and paired with apple wine. The cost is $89 per person plus tax (gratuity not included), and reservations are necessary. Buy tickets here.
7. Séance Week with Mentalist Brandon Becker
Sun, Oct. 25-31, 5:30 – 8:30 pm, Logan Inn, 10 West Ferry St., New Hope, PA
Séance Week begins this Sunday, October 25 at the Logan Inn. Come any night from October 25 to October 31 for an authentic evening with the spirits of Logan Inn. New Hope has been called the most haunted town in American and the Logan Inn is no stranger to ghost activity in the past.
Every evening there will be a three-course dinner and spooky spirit drink followed by a séance event hosted by mentalist Brandon Becker. Each evening is capped at 15 guests, so get your tickets in advance, which are $85 a head (an actual head, ghosts not included). Sunday-Friday (Oct 25-30) dinner will start at 5:30 pm with the séance following at 7:30 pm. On Saturday (October 31) dinner is at 7:30 pm and at 9:30 pm the séance begins. 8. Principles of Wine and Dine
Sun, Oct. 25, 3:30 – 5:30 pm, Sand Castle Winery, 755 River Road, Erwinna, PA
The Principles of Wine and Dine Class is hosted by the Sand Castle’s winemaker, Joseph Maxian. The cost is $40 per person and it includes a 90 minute class with an introduction to wine and food pairings. The winemaker will help you taste 11 wines paired with cheeses, olive oils, herbs, spices, nuts and fruits. Learn the secrets of pairing any food with good wine.
