5 things you gotta do in Bucks this weekend (Nov 6 – 8)

Pug Dressed like Bacon

I’m always pleasantly surprised when I stumble upon unique events in Bucks County. Living in the area as a young woman, I always thought that I had to take a trip into the city to have some fun. But, I realize now that the fun is right here in Bucks, and you don’t need to travel far to find good food, and people who love it just as much as I do!

1. Murder Mystery Dinner Trains

Fri, Nov. 6, 7 – 9 pm, New Hope & Ivyland Railroad, 32 West Bridge Street, New Hope, PA

New Hope and Ivyland Railroad dinner trainDinner and a show? All aboard The New Hope & Ivyland Railroad, with Act 1 Productions for another season of mystery on the rails. Your ticket gets you a two hour round trip train ride to Buckingham Valley, PA, a three course meal, interactive dining experience with Act 1 Productions, Murder Mystery show, and coffee service.

We can’t spoil the “whodunit,” since it is a murder mystery, but we can say what the meal is: a salad of Mesclun greens with goat cheese, dried cranberries, red onion, mandarin oranges and raspberry vinaigrette (and dinner rolls), a choice of one entree of lemon and rosemary chicken, or pork tenderloin with a cranberry compote, or a three cheese ravioli in a brown butter sage and walnut sauce (all entrees served with a seasonal vegetable and roasted potatoes) and cheesecake with seasonal fruit topping for dessert. Tickets are $98.95 per person for railroad seating (passengers may be seated with other guests at a table of four) or $125 per person for private seating (table for two). See a list of frequently asked questions and more information here.

2. Pork & Sauerkraut Dinner

Sat, Nov. 7, 4 – 7 pm, St. Peter’s Tohickon UCC, Old Bethlehem Road, Perkasie, PA

Sausage and Sauerkraut!
If the bacon fest just isn’t enough pork for you (see below), head over to St. Peter’s Tohickon U.C.C., for a Pork & Sauerkraut dinner (family style) with bake sale, both on November 7 from 4 – 7 pm (or until sold out). Eat-in tickets for adults are $11 and for children ages 5-12 tickets are $6. Children under five years are free. Take out food for adults is $12 and for children the same as the eat-in price. Bring a non-perishable food item for the food pantry. Proceeds from the event will benefit various missions of the Church. For more information, call 215.257.4633.

Lattice Style Apple Pie

Apples galore! A weekend treat of apple everything: country apple butter, apple cider, apple fritters and donuts, apple pies and cakes, and apple dumplings at The Lucky Cupcake Company’s Village Bakery. Find this and more at Peddler’s Village this weekend.

At this festival, on Saturday, November 7 through Sunday, November 8, take home fresh, bushels of apples from Bechdolt’s Orchard, or see the many artisans at their Street Road Green Artisan Area. 5. PA Bacon Fest & The State of Bacon

Sat, Nov. 7 & Sun, Nov. 8, 9 am – 4 pm, State Theatre Center for the Arts, 453 Northampton Street, Easton, PA

Pug Dressed like Bacon

Although this event is not in Bucks County, it was too good to pass up telling you about it. Especially with the great picture of the “bacon pug.”

The bacon party is rolling this weekend with the PA Bacon Fest, which runs concurrently with the Easton Farmers’ Market—which happens to be the oldest, continuously operating open-air market in the country—offering local, sustainable, fresh organic bread, produce, cheese, meat and more. Then, head to the State Theatre to try the area’s finest craft beer, wine and appetizers for The State of Bacon, going from 3:30 – 7:30 pm. There will be live music from Tavern Tan and Mason Porter, and a VIP showing of specially created Pig Art that is part of their Art du Cochoun event. And, you have to try some of the crazy bacon goodies like bacon vodka, candy, chocolate and ice cream at Bacon Fest. Tickets are $25 in advance and $35 at the door. You can buy tickets here and find a full schedule on their website. There’s a lot happening these two days, especially if you like bacon.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Yes Easton is Northampton! 🙂 But the Bacon Fest and following event at the State Theatre are just too good to pass up. We’ll make a correction and make it clearer that it is not in Bucks. Have a great (bacon-filled) weekend!
