Bucks Food Calendar: February 11, 2011

Wine, chocolate and thou. That seems to be the theme this Valentine’s Day Weekend. I always shy away from Valentine’s Day, to be truthful. I was single for many, many years, and it wasn’t such a happy day for me. But, there’s no reason not to enjoy eating and drinking in Bucks County – whether you’ve got a honey or not!

Drink, eat chocolate and be merry. Many local wineries here and in New Jersey are putting on fun stuff this weekend in honor of sweetheart day – or perhaps just using it as an excuse? How about Wine, Chocolate, Cheese, Jazz, Tango & More at Unionville Vineyards in Ringoes, NJ all weekend? It’s all the things I love most together! Or Champagne for Lovers at Crossing Vineyards where you can learn more about champagne with or without a lover, this Friday evening. You can also enjoy jazz at Crossing from 8 – 10 pm, and a Wine & Chocolate for Lovers class on Sunday. Alba Winery in Milford is also celebrating Wine & Chocolate pairing all weekend. Chaddsford Winery in Lahaska is doing their February Fusion wine tasting party (every weekend in February). And at Shady Brook Farm, they’ve brought their popular Wine Concert Series indoors every Sunday through the winter.

To market, to market. Many, many restaurants are offering Valentine’s Day specials. So many that I can’t list – call up your favorites and ask them what they are offering. Or…go to one of our local farmers’ markets and buy the fixins’ for a homemade meal for your honey. And if cooking’s not your thing, you’ll find artisanal chocolates (like The Painted Truffle at Stockton), sweet baked goods, delectable ice cream, pretty flowers and more to give your sweetie. The Wrightstown Farmers’ Market has one of their winter mini-markets this Saturday morning. The Stockton Market is open all weekend as well, and the Ottsville Indoor Winter Market is Saturday morning from 9 – 11 am. This may be the first decent weather Saturday, so drive on over and buy some stuff from local producers. New Hope Farmers’ Market will also have their monthly winter market this Thursday, February 17 in their new location, next to the Eagle Diner on Route 202.
