Bucks Food Calendar: November 30, 2015

December starts this week, which means hello cold days and hello to a month of great events in Bucks County. The week starts slow (everyone recuperating from a weekend of eating) but starts getting real busy towards the weekend. Here’s a few fun and delicious things to do this week.

Winter is coming! Actually, it’s practically here, which is why this Tuesday, December 1 is the 17th Annual Sellersville Winterfest celebration. It starts with the Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. at the Sellersville Fire Hall. Santa Claus will arrive at the Fire Hall at 6:45 p.m. and trolley rides begin at 7:00 p.m. Participating businesses and churches will have activities at their locations throughout the borough. The Sellersville Museum will be open with the Christmas Tree Forest exhibit. This is a rain or shine (or snow) event. Head over to the theater for free Washington House chocolate chip cookies, hot chocolate, hot cider and music. While you are in Sellersville, stop by the other great restaurants and cafes in the area.

beers from d’Achouffe

Also on December 2 is the Annual d’Achouffe Christmas Party at the Spinnerstown Hotel, in Spinnerstown, PA. This is a reservation only event, with tree decorating, hors d’oeuvres, dinner and beers from d’Achouffe. This is an all-day event, and you can reserve your spot by contacting the hotel.

Gingerbread Competition

Come see a Peddler’s Village tradition this week, and into the rest of the weeks this month. Peddler’s Village has their Gingerbread house competition on display, with the following categories: traditional, authentic reproduction of a significant building, student and kids only. Winners were announced on November 23, 2015. It’s a visual display that you can see throughout the holiday season, but it is closed on Christmas Day. Check it out this week to avoid the weekend rush.

Christmas Cookies

If the gingerbread houses make you hungry, you can eat some cookies this week as well – for a good cause. The Quakertown Neighborhood Association will hold the 11th Annual Cookies, Cocoa & Caring event at the historic Quakertown Train Station on Thursday, December 3 from 6 to 8 pm. The association will be collecting donated gift cards to local stores at the event, to give to families of children within the Quakertown Community School District who are in need. Get rewarded with free hot chocolate and cookies to start the holiday season.
