Yes! It’s “early” this year. That’s what everyone is saying about Mother’s Day. It’s still the second Sunday in May but it does feel early. Not to worry. There are plenty of fun things to do this weekend in honor of the one who gave birth to you, went through hours of labor and put up with you for how many years? I’m just saying.

- The Bucks County Designer House Mother’s Day Brunch & Fashion Show at the Waterwheel Restaurant in Doylestown, on both Friday and Saturday [11 am–1 pm].
- Mother’s Day Tea in the Garden, on Saturday at Linden Hill Gardens in Ottsville [8 am-4 pm].
- Solebury United Methodist Church in New Hope will hold a Mother’s Day Tea on Saturday [4-6 pm].
- Wine, wine, chocolate, wine. Saturday’s weather looks perfect for a drive out to a winery. Lots of area wineries are having special tastings in honor of moms. Consider wineries on either side of the rich Delaware River Valley: Unionville Vineyards (Ringoes, NJ), Crossing Vineyards (Washington Crossing, PA), Villa Milagro Vineyards (Finesville, NJ), Old York Cellars (Ringoes, NJ), Chaddsford Winery (Lahaska, PA) and Alba Vineyards (Milford, NJ).
To market, to market. Two seasonal farmers markets open this week. The New Hope Farmers’ Market opened on Thursday, May 5 and this Saturday, May 7, the Wrightstown Farmers’ Market begins its season. As one of my Facebook followers exclaimed about the New Hope market, “Ahhhh, I have that relaxed, I can get what I need this Thursday when I pick up my daughter from school feeling again!!!”
A co-op in Doylestown. You’ve heard the rumors. It’s true. A group of dedicated volunteers has been working hard to bring a real brick-and-mortar food co-op to Doylestown, one that will specifically support local producers. The nascent Doylestown Food Co-op will hold a kick-off event at the County Theater in Doylestown this Thursday, May 12th. They will show the award winning documentary, “Food Fight: Revolution Never Tasted So Good” followed by information about the co-op and discussion with local food producers. The doors open at 6:30 pm and the movie begins at 7:00 pm. Bring your checkbook if you are serious about joining, because they’ll be taking memberships that evening. Speaking of cool movies and local food producers, check out what is happening across the river in Lambertville on Friday and Saturday evening this weekend. At the ACME Screening Room, they’ll be showing two great documentaries, “NJ Fresh” and “FRESH: The Movie.” NJ Fresh is a short film, the first in NJN’s four-part series on New Jersey’s community farm markets, featuring the Musconetcong Valley’s organic Comeback Farm and Bobolink Dairy, Flemington’s Matt McPherson of Matt’s Red Rooster Grill and the Hunterdon Land Trust Farmers Market. Bobolink Dairy will be there with their wonderful cheese to taste, plus other local NJ producers. The event is sponsored by Sandbrook Meadow Farm, a new Community-Supported-Agriculture (CSA) farm in Hunterdon County, NJ.
