Bucks Food Calendar: February 1, 2016

Seafood Dish, Mojito Cuba Caribe

It’s February 1st! And since it’s a leap year, that means there are only 28 more days left to this month. To kick it off, we found a few unique—but still food related—events for you to attend.

The Bucks County Foodshed Alliance wants to teach you how to raise chickens in your own backyard this Wednesday, February 3, at 7 pm at the George School’s Anderson Library in Newtown (conference room). Panelists will share information from their personal experience of raising chickens. Come learn from others’ mistakes and triumphs, from laying the foundation for your entry into chicken raising, to maintaining the vitality and productivity of your established flock. It’s a no-charge event but donations are requested.

Topics include:

  • Free-Range, Pasture-Raised, Cage-Free, Organic?
  • Dollars & Sense: Investment Expectations
  • Home Sweet Home: Coop Options
  • A to Z Rules & Regs: Approvals & Permits to Zoning
  • Babies or Teens: The Peeps-or-Young-Adults Question

Seafood Dish, Mojito Cuba Caribe

The chef cook-off at Mojito Cuba Caribe Restaurant in New Hope is the first Thursday of every month. This Thursday, February 4 from 6 – 9 pm, Mojito will be hosting a head-to-head battle between two chefs. The chefs will each create three small plates of their choice, using the same ingredient in their featured entrée dish. The customers get to vote on each plate based on taste, creativity, and presentation. Want to participate? The cost is $25 which includes six small plates (three by each Chef), one house wine, domestic beer, or house mixed drink. Also, there’s a chance to win a $10 gift certificate on your next visit to Mojito Cuba Caribe. The winning chef and winner of the gift certificate will be announced when the kitchen closes at 9 pm.
