I’ve looked at the forecast for the weekend…and I’m confused. It’s one of those partly sunny, partly cloudy, maybe showers, maybe not, and in the high 50’s to low 60’s. I’ll take it. And every time I talk to someone, the forecast temperatures for Monday go up – first it was 75°, then 80°, then 85°. Really folks. Eighty-five degrees on April 11th? If you believe that, you’ll believe anything.
How about the eating forecast this week? Here are my picks:
On Saturday… The Restaurant at Nostalgia, the new home of Chef Jose Vargas (Thyme on the Delaware, Rylei), presents an Antinori Wine Dinner which includes five courses, each paired with wines from the fine Umbrian and Tuscan Italian Vintner, Antinori. The meal includes Savory Chocolate Pasta with Wild Mushrooms, Squab Breast with Cherry Emulsion, Turnips and Roasted Shallots, Wagyu Beef with Tuscan Kale, Celery Root & Chianti Sauce, and a Panna Cotta with Yellow Cake for dessert. All for $65 per person. Call for reservations at 215.589-4310.
On Sunday…I must be loyal to the Lingohocken Fire Co., my local firefighters, as they put on their Pancake Breakfast. The pancakes start flipping at 8 am and go until 1 pm. A regular stack of pancakes is $6, a short stack is $4. Sausage, French Toast, coffee/tea, juice, and milk included. See ya in Wycombe!
Also on Sunday and continuing through Thursday, Newtown Restaurant Week 2011. Twelve participating restaurants, including some of Newtown’s best, are offering a $35.00 three-course meal prix fixe menu. Special this year is the “Five for Four” Deal: Dine in any participating Newtown restaurant four times during Restaurant Week and the fifth dinner is FREE – compliments of the Newtown Corporation. All proceeds will benefit the Newtown First Fourth fireworks. Go to their website for more information.
On Thursday…The Roaring ’20’s come to the Yardley Inn! For the price of the ticket ($65), you get five poker chips at the door and admittance to our a”speakeasy.” Come in a period-appropriate costume and you’ll receive an extra poker chip. When you enter the speakeasy, you’ll find two bars serving the selected cocktails. How about a Philly fish house punch? Or a Jersey Lightning? Those and more! The menu features passed and stationary hors d’oeuvres like oysters, caviar, Waldorf salad, and other fun foods from the ’20’s. Call for reservations at 215.493.3800.
The first Farm-to-Table Dinner of the season! Saturday, April 16th yours truly will be the featured guest and guide at a Spring Farm-to-Table Dinner at Crossing Vineyards in Washington Crossing. It is going to be delicious, filled with locally sourced food (yes, even in April!). The five-course gourmet meal will of course be paired with Crossing Vineyards’ internationally-acclaimed wines. For more details and to sign-up, go to their website. (I’ll do a post soon with more menu details!)
