Talk about a blustery weekend! The weather folks are saying this is going to be a very cold April, so better hold onto those jackets a little longer. Consider making something warm yet light this week, like the detox soup I’m making at home in the crock pot.
If you check out Bucks County Taste’s recipes, you’ll find plenty of options to keep the chill out. And if that’s not enough, this week there is much to do. There are new spring menus and happy hours, a chef cook-off, and other spring treats.
Happy hour. Try out some new happy hour food specials from Monday through Thursday at The Raven in New Hope. Also Monday through Thursday are drink specials like $6 wines, $5 cocktails, $3 draft beers, $2.50 select beers
- Mussel Monday: $5 mussels red or white sauce
- Taco Tuesday: $2 tacos, chef selection
- Wing Wednesdays: $6 all you can eat wings
- Buck-a-shuck Thursdays: $1 oysters
Wellness fair. Stop by the Linksz Pavilion at Bucks County Community College in Newtown for the Annual Health & Wellness Fair on Tuesday, April 5 from 11 am – 2 pm. The Tubby Olive and a variety of vendors from different areas in health, wellness and fitness will be participating. Come to this event for tastings, information and healthy recipes.
Schnitzel Night. Join the United German Hungarians in Bensalem for a Schnitzel Night at the club, every first Wednesday of the month. Dinner is $10 for adults and $5 for children, dessert is available for purchase and there is a fully stocked cash bar.
The meal includes schnitzel (pork), red cabbage, and spaetzle (dumplings). Reservations aren’t necessary but if you’re planning on bringing a large group, call Kathi Galgon at 215.542.0868.
Spring treats. March is over, and so are the March specials at Karlton Cafe in Quakertown. No worries, the cafe will have their April menu available on Thursday, April 7. What else is new at Karlton Cafe? They now have gluten-free, dairy-free or vegetarian dessert options along with their regular desserts.
Chef cook-off. Do you enjoy watching those cooking competitions on the food network? Then you’ll like this event at Mojito Cuba Caribe Restaurant in New Hope. On Thursday, starting at 6 pm, there will be a head-to-head battle between two Chefs. The chefs will each create three small plates of their choice, only using the same ingredient in their featured entrée dish.
Customers get to vote on each plate based on taste, creativity, and presentation. The choice to participate in this event is a fixed price $25 which includes six small plates (three by each chef), one house wine, domestic beer, or house mixed drink.
On the radar: On Sunday, April 10, the Philly Farm & Food Fest returns! Check out the full lineup of vendors, and other happenings at this event that showcases the regions finest. Read the full post here.
Don’t forget to reserve your spot for the Allagash beer dinner on Thursday, April 14 at the Yardley Inn Restaurant & Bar. Tickets are $75 per person plus tax & gratuity. The dinner starts at 7 pm.
