10 things you gotta do in Bucks this weekend (September 15 – 18)

What a beautiful day! Get a head start on your weekend because there are things to do and eat in Bucks County from Thursday until Sunday. Drink beer on historic grounds in Lansdale, check out a chef demo from one of Bucks County’s favorite BYOBs, and stop by the grand opening of a new and cozy cafe!

1. Starr Hill Themed Brewery Menu

The Starr Hill Brewery from Charlottesville, VA, is taking over the taps at the Continental Tavern in Yardley this Thursday, September 15. These brews will pair with different dishes for a special Starr Hill-themed dinner menu. Enjoy beer-infused food specials like jumbo prawns with grilled leeks and charred local chilies, paired with the Northern Lights IPA. Or, eat the beer-braised short ribs that are served with smoked polenta and brussels sprouts in bacon vinaigrette, paired with Starr Hill’s Reviver Red IPA. 2. 4th Annual Tavern Night

The Morgan Log House annual tavern night is back again for its fourth year! Head to Lansdale for a night featuring craft beers, meads, ciders, wines, distilled spirits, and eight food courses set up on the grounds of the 300-year-old historic site. General admission is $40, and there are two VIP tiers: $65 and $100. Buy tickets here before they are sold out.

Also, while you are there, check out the meet-and-greet with Chef Fred from the Rising Sun Inn. He will prepare dishes that are specially paired with craft beers.

3. Concordia Chamberfest

Friday, September 16 – Sunday, September 18, Glen Oaks Far, 6871 Upper York Rd., Solebury, PA

This weekend, listen to the music of seven extraordinary musicians at the barn at Glen Oaks Farm in Solebury. The Concordia Chamber Players are putting on their Concordia Chamberfest for 2016, and the performers will take you on a musical journey from Friday, September 16, through Sunday, September 18, during various hours. Ticket prices vary, depending upon which concert you want to attend. Light refreshments and wines will be served. Buy your tickets online here.

4. Wrightstown Farmers Market

Saturday, September 17, 9 am – 1 pm, 2203 Second Street Pike, Wrightstown, PA

It’s starting to look (and taste) like fall! This weekend, shop at the Wrightstown Farmers Market, where vendors will be offering a variety of fall-friendly produce like heirloom tomatoes, eggplant, garlic, beans, husk cherries, onions, peppers, potatoes, apples and pears.

There will be a special chef demo from Chefs Eric and Mark Plescha from Charcoal BYOB in Yardley. The demo runs from 10 am – 12 pm. If you’ve never been to Charcoal, this local spot has been crafting seasonal meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner since 1995. The chefs believe that food satisfies more than taste buds, so they experiment with modern culinary techniques while still incorporating the classics. Taste what they’re cooking up this weekend!

5. Peace Valley Winery Grape Picking

Some summer produce is officially coming to an end, including the season’s grapes. The Peace Valley Winery‘s vineyards are open for grape-picking this Saturday, starting at 10 am, so you can help pick the last of them! These Steubens are large sweet blue grapes full of flavors. They traditionally sell out by the end of the weekend, and the winery doesn’t expect anything different this year. Be sure to stop by and pluck these blue beauties.

Nockamixon Community Day

Saturday, September 17, 11 am – 5 pm, Bucks County Horse Park, 8934 Easton Rd, Revere, PA

Get ready for a fun, large community event that celebrates Nockamixon and surrounding dsc_0430communities this Saturday, September 17!  This weekend is the tenth Nockamixon Community Day presented by the Bucks County Horse Park. Nockamixon Day is a family day with complimentary food and a variety of activities and entertainment, as well as local vendors.

Vendors will show off their products, services, and have plenty of activities for the locals. There will be hay rides, Fitzpatrick Irish Dancers, chain saw carving, free kayaking paddle lessons, inflatable bouncy houses, and more. Last year, the event attracted about 3,500 people, so this is not something you want to miss! Come enjoy this free, community event. Rain or shine! 6. Wines on the Hill Festival

Saturday, September 17, noon – 6 pm, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church soccer fields, 1530 Augsburg Drive, Hilltown, PA

More than 75 vendors and exhibitors will be present this Saturday, September 17, for the annual Wines on the Hill event, featuring food, music, Pennsylvania wineries, breweries, bags, cheese, jewelry, and other artisans goodies. There will be vendors featuring PA honey, maple syrup, candles, jellies and jams.

Food concessions at this event are family-owed. They include 2 Little Piggy’s BBQ and Catering, featuring pulled pork, smoked chicken and kielbasa sandwiches with fresh sides, and Bucks County Seafood with their popular specialties.  This event is a fundraiser for the Hilltown Township Volunteer Fire Company. 7. Firehouse Breakfasts

There’s nothing better than a home-cooked breakfast. It tastes even better when you know your local friendly firefighters cooked the food for you!

The Perkasie Fire Company on Fifth and Arch Streets in Perkasie hosts its all-you-can-eat buffet this Sunday. The menu includes eggs, pancakes, waffles, cream dried beef, sausage, bacon, scrapple, home fries, assorted juice and more. Top it off with dessert, too! Adult price $7, children ages four to 12 are $3.50, and three and under are free. Call 215.257.6950 for more information.

Also on Sunday at the Riegelsville Fire Company, breakfast is served from 8 am – 12 pm and includes traditional morning breakfast items like scrapple, creamed dried beef, eggs, ham, sausage, omelets, toast, pancakes and more. All of this is cooked by the firefighters, just for you. All proceeds benefit the fire-fighting program at Community Fire Company #1, Station 42.

8. Chardonnay Harvest

The Wycombe Vineyards needs your help! This weekend, it needs helpful grape pickers to harvest the fruit for the season. A free glass of wine is given to all the pickers, as well as lunch. Please arrive on time, dress for the outdoors, and bring the following: kitchen scissors or shears, garden gloves, your own lawn chair, sun protective hat, and sunscreen. Also: Beware of bees and yellow jackets! If you’re allergic it’s wise you don’t pick, since the bees love the grapes this time of year. Please refrain from wearing perfumes or colognes. 9. 4th Annual Bucks County Healthy Living Festival

Sunday, September 18, Snipes Farm and Education Center, 890 W. Bridge St., Morrisville, PA

This annual event brings together the community for a celebration of healthy living. Held at the Snipes Farm and Education Center, the festival introduces residents to the many entrepreneurs who offer sustainable and healthy choices for Bucks County.

There will be eco-friendly, sustainable, metaphysical and holistic vendors, including artists, musicians, and of course, delicious and organic wholesome food. The entrance to the festival is free of charge. Some food vendors include: Heavenly Hotdogs (vegan), Kung Fu Hoagies (vegetarian and vegan), Greenstraw Smoothies, and LoveGrows CSA, to name a few. 10. Grand Opening at the Fancy Fig

This new cafe opened in mid-August in Penns Park (Wrightstown Township) at the Gathering in the space where the Summer Kitchen used to be. Lisa Brymer, who has run a successful catering business in Bucks for 10 years, is serving breakfast and lunch, Wednesday through Saturday, and brunch on Sunday. Join her and the friendly staff of the Fancy Fig for their grand opening on Sunday, September 18, from 2 pm – 5 pm. You’ll get a chance to sample their menu, nibble on passed hors d’oeuvres, sip some cocktails, and see the cozy cafe.
