Okay, so Memorial Day weekend was kind of “meh.” But June is bopping in this week. That means strawberries galore, asparagus, tender spring greens, green garlic and more. It also means outdoor dining, picnics, winery trips, and new spring menus at area restaurants.
Here’s what’s happening this week in Bucks County…
Burger & bacon benefit. The Hattery Stove & Still at the Doylestown Inn will host its 2nd “Pay What You Want” Burger fundraiser of the year on Wednesday, May 31 from 5 – 9 pm. Proceeds benefit Ben’s Lighthouse, a volunteer organization that was created after the Sandy Hook shooting tragedy, named after Ben Wheeler, one of the victims.
Chef Billy Gilbo will also serve up “Ben’s Bacon” – thick-cut bacon with salted dark chocolate, two of Ben’s favorite foods. Diners can choose from four different burgers: Classic, Pierre, Main St., Kennett Square; and, Ben’s Bacon is available for $1 a piece with all burgers.
Eat Fit tasting event. After a weekend filled with chips and dips, it might be nice to try some healthy and satisfying snacks. This Wednesday, from 2 – 5 pm, visit Weis Markets in Doylestown to sample their recipe for protein packed no-bake energy bites. Contact the store for more information.
Throwback Thursdays. DeAnna’s Restaurant in Lambertville is celebrating its 27th anniversary with “Throwback Thursdays” offering a special 1990 priced menu. TBT begins this Thursday, June 1 and ends Thursday, August 31. The regular menu will also be available, as will daily specials. The special menu will change weekly based on availability of fresh, local ingredients.
Also, DeAnna’s garden is open! The restaurant’s summer hours, from May 30 – September 4, will be Wednesday through Saturday (closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday). You can still enjoy $5-a-plate happy hour at the bar from 4 – 6 pm on Wednesdays, and the happy hour raw bar from 4 – 6 pm on Thursdays and Fridays.
Explore new spring menus. Need a mid-week grill fix? Hamilton’s Grill Room is offering special spring prix fixe menus Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. These will change every few weeks and are $35 for 2 courses. The menu features grilled oysters with Pernod butter, grilled whole trout, grilled halibut, Steak Diane, and don’t forget — the return of their famous Alaskan King Crab legs.
