There are so many interesting and fun food-related events happening this week. Consider filling up on fresh tacos and Happy Hour small plates, viewing a film about saving seeds, and learning about diet trends and nutrition. Plus, there are a few fun events on the horizon that you should consider adding to your agenda (see the end of this post for our full calendar and “on the radar” events).
Farm film series. The Pennypack Farm and Education Center hosts Seed: The Untold Story, this Tuesday, April 18. In the last century, 94% of our seed varieties have disappeared. This film follows passionate seed keepers around the world protecting our 12,000 year-old food legacy. After the movie a panel of experts will lead a discussion. Doors open at 6 pm for the sponsor expo in the lobby, and the film begins at 7:30 pm. Learn more here.
Taco Tuesday! Time to fill up on tacos, because this week is the Comfortfood & Kitchenette’s comfort food and a classic movie night. For $25 per person (plus gratuity and tax) you can enjoy endless tacos with a great flick. So, head over to Morrisville at 7 pm for some tacos served family style with chips, homemade salsas, pickled veggies.

Small plates for happy hour.It’s always nice to get a drink on the cheap for happy hour, but food? Even better. DeAnna’s Restaurant in Lambertville offers small plates for happy hour from 4 – 6 pm at the bar on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Here’s a sample of what DeAnna’s offers for small plates (based on last week’s menu): Spring chilled asparagus with shaved pecorino, fresh lemon and extra virgin olive oil, spring sweet pea savory custard finished with white truffle oil, famous chicken liver pate with cornichon, and more!
Wednesdays for Women.In a world of fake news, the truth is somewhere out there. But how do we navigate this world and gather the right facts? Kendra Thatcher, a digital communications specialist and activist talks about this and more at this month’s Wednesdays for Women at Hamilton’s Grill Room. Thatcher will discuss how you can acquire the skills to effectively deal with the “endless barrage of information.”

You’ve seen the latest diet fads. Paleo food, drinking apple cider vinegar, detoxing and cleanses…is any of this healthy or is it all just hype? Jill Kawsny, MS, RDN presents a free program on these trends this Thursday, April 20 from 10 am – 11 am. In the upstairs bistro at the McCaffrey’s Market in Yardley located at the Edgewood Village Shopping Center, you can learn about the diet hype, and sample some of McCaffrey’s delicious dishes from its food department. Seasonal eating.This isn’t Bucks County, but since we are highlighting food talks and workshop, we figured we’d include this event at Gravity Hill Farm in Titusville, NJ.
This workshop discusses the ancient practices of eating seasonally. You’ll learn how to use seasonal eating to maximize micronutrient diversity and keep your gut healthy. Head to the barn at Gravity Hill Farm on Thursday to learn more about this food topic. Workshops cost $30 for the public and $25 for NOFA-NJ members. Register online at www.nofanj.org.

DelVal A-Day starts this Saturday, April 22. Come for milkshakes, horse rides, local vendors, and a whole lot of fun. A-Day is a campus wide spring event held at Delaware Valley University.
Shad Fest returns Saturday and Sunday, April 29 & 30. Thirty-two years later, Shad Fest has grown from a local event to an award-winning tourist attraction. It’s a rain or shine event you won’t want to miss!
