This past week, we’ve certainly felt Mother Nature change her mind drastically. Warm up your weekend with new food, and pick up the ingredients locally, here in Bucks County. Stop by a few community events as well for some hot and tasty breakfast and dinners.
1. Doylestown Food Market Fun & Food

Enjoy some pasta and music this Friday for Doylestown Food Market‘s Fun First Friday from 5 – 7 pm. Christa Tinari and Neal Carson will be performing songs from a variety of artists like: Ella Fitzgerald, Carole King, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Marvin & Tammi, Joni, Adele and more. Superior Pasta Company will be sampling some specialties, including their vegan options.
Also at the Doylestown Food Market this Saturday from 1 – 4 pm, sample some of Mira’s tasty, organic, raw and vegan granola (yes, it’s all those things). Granola makes a great snack, or try it my way and have it with almond milk for breakfast. Mira’s granola comes in flavors like blueberry banana, cacao and hemp, double nut, and mango coconut.
2. Ziti Dinner
Friday, Jan. 8, 5 – 7 pm, Centenary United Methodist Church, 108 N Union St, Lambertville, NJ
Pasta galore! There will be a Ziti Dinner from 5 – 7 pm on Friday, January 8 at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Lambertville, NJ. Benefits from this dinner will go to their roof restoration fund. With the ziti, you also get salad, bread, dessert and beverages. The cost of the meal is $12.

3. Soup Days
Saturday, Jan. 9, 11 am – 2 pm, Dublin Fire Company, 194 N. Main St, Dublin, PA
Soup Days (eat in or take home) at Dublin Fire Company continue this Saturday, January 9 (you missed last month’s Soup Day). The Eat-in menu includes a bowl of vegetable, ham and bean or chicken noodle soup, crackers, beverage, and dessert for $5. Additional sandwiches, hot dogs and other items are available. Soup is also sold by the quart for pickup or take home.
4. Sunday Breakfast at the Firehouse
Sunday, Jan. 10, 7:30 – 12 pm, Upper Black Eddy Fire Co., 1716 Firehouse Ln, Upper Black Eddy, PA
Sunday, Jan. 10, 8 am – 1 pm, Richland Twp. Fire & Rescue, 64 Shelly Rd, Quakertown, PA
There are two places to choose from if you want some good community breakfast. Enjoy some breakfast at Upper Black Eddy Fire Co. with options like eggs, french toast, pancakes, cream dried beef, bacon, sausage, potatoes, and toast. Adults are $8, children from 5 – 10 are $4, and children under 5 are free. Re-orders are $2 and take out if you have to go, is $9. Also on Sunday is breakfast at the Richland Twp. Fire & Rescue in Quakertown. The Fire & Rescue has their Sunday breakfast buffet every second Sunday of the month as one of their fundraisers.
5. BBQ Playoff Specials

Nothing says game day like good BBQ and some wings. Hickory Kitchen in Doylestown is known for its barbecue, and thankfully you can bring their food to your living room couch. They have a large catering menu, with options for big or small parties. Get BBQ meats by the pound like their pulled pork or sliced brisket. Meats by the pound run from $15 – $18 depending on the meat. Don’t forget to add a tray of cornbread! You can get a half tray or a full tray (because who doesn’t want extra cornbread?). At Smoke’n Dudes in Bensalem, the family owned restaurant that got their start in barbecue contests, also has a catering menu with signature sauces and rubs. Some specials for the game this weekend include 20 wings, two lbs. of pulled pork, and six rolls for $29.99; 50 wings and two racks of ribs for $65.99; or five lbs of pulled pork, 18 rolls, a tray of cole slaw and a tray of baked beans for $74.99. You can try some of their sauces if you plan on making your own meat, and they have four flavors: Original, Tennessee Red, Smokey Mountain, and Honey Mustard. You can even stop in and pick up cuts of meat like petite filets, rib eye, hamburger, and more.
6. Ducks and Chickens?

Did you decide to try a new hobby this year as part of your resolutions’ list? The Market at DelVal in Doylestown wants you to raise ducks and chickens! That’s right. You can have your own eggs in the morning by these selected breeds of chickens and ducks suitable for the average person to raise. Now that’s eating local! Experts at The Market will be able to help, and they are taking orders from now through February. The chicks will be ready for pick up in March and April, and they require a 50% deposit to order.
