Bucks Food Calendar: April 1, 2015

Lynne, the wonderful woman behind this website, and I are both fighting colds. We’ve both turned to our own Hot Toddy recipe for comfort (it just goes to show that we only post what we can back up). If you’ve got the early spring sniffles, too, we recommend it. Find the recipe here.

Hot Toddy a la Sarah

Just because we’re sniffling and sneezing over here doesn’t mean that the rest of you can’t have fun this weekend. Free wine, wine and chocolate, wine and Easter candies, Passover Seders, and dining out for the Easter Holiday are just some of the many options.

Wine. Homestead Farm Market in Lambertville, New Jersey opens for the season today, Wednesday, April 1. Tomorrow, Thursday, April 2, from 1 to 4 pm, they’ll be celebrating with a Free Wine Tasting featuring the wines of Villa Milagro Vineyards in Finesville, New Jersey. Stop in and say hello!

Wine & Chocolate

How sweet it is… to eat chocolate and drink wine. Crossing Vineyards brings their popular Wine & Chocolate Pairing Class back this weekend on Saturday, April 4 from 2 to 3 pm, giving guests a chance to sip on their wines and bite into some Pierre’s Chocolates.

Ever wonder if all those sweet goodies the Easter Bunny leaveschocolate-easter-bunnies_Lake Champlain Chocolates behind pair well with wine? Find out on Sunday, April 5, from 1 to 4 pm aat the Chaddsford Winery Tasting Room in Peddler’s Village, where they’ll be pairing their wines with Easter basket sweets for their Eggcelent Wine Pairing.

Passover. Synagogues in Bucks County and the surrounding area are presenting the opportunity to celebrate Passover this weekend with community seders in various locations. On Friday, April 3, Community Passover Seders will be held at Congregation Brith Sholom in Bethlehem at 6 pm, Lubavitch of Montgomery County in Fort Washington at 7:30 pm, and  Chabad Lubavitch of Doylestown will hold their seders for the first and second night at the Central Bucks Ambulance in Doylestown at 8 pm. On Saturday, April 4, Kehilat HaNahar of New Hope will hold their Community Passover Seder at Deer Park Retreat Center  beginning at 6 pm.

Easter. Don’t feel like cooking ham, lamb, scalloped potatoes, or any of the other traditional Easter Sunday staples? Not to worry. Restaurants all over Bucks County and just across the river in Hunterdon County are open for business, cooking Easter dinner for you so you can relax with your family. See our post of participating restaurants here.

Here’s what you’ll find at area farmers’ markets:  Apples, beets, butternut squash, carrots, celeriac (celery root), cheese pumpkins, collard greens, herbs, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, micro-greens, mushrooms, napa cabbage, onions, potatoes, rutabaga, salad greens, strawberries (frozen), sweet potatoes, turnips, radishes, and wheatgrass.

Most markets will also have eggs from free-range chickens, grass-fed and pastured meats, preserves, specialty foods, baked goods like breads, cakes, cookies and pastries, cheese and yogurt, cider and juice, sauces locally roasted coffee, and interesting crafts from local artisans.
