14 Great Waterside Restaurants (including 9 that Zagat missed)

Six years ago I published a short post about waterside restaurants. It was based on a Zagat piece that culled from their readers the top ten waterside restaurants in the Philadelphia area. Four of them were in Bucks and one was in Hunterdon.

But, boy, did they miss a few. I guess Zagat readers don’t know everything. Here is the amended list, with input from Bucks County Taste readers. If we’ve missed one of your favorites, email us here: info@BucksCountyTaste.com.

Charcoal BYOB
After the 2006 flood, this riverside restaurant moved up a story – and a foot above the 1955 flood line just to be sure – and put in almost floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the river. One night we even sat and watched a thunderstorm move down the river. Read more about Charcoal – and it’s “two” restaurants – in our post, Charcoal AM & PM.

Fred’s Breakfast Club
Yes, it’s a “club” but at this point most of the locals have a key. Best time to go, and best time to appreciate the river, is early, early, early. In the winter, you’ll catch the sunrise over Lambertville. Read more about Fred’s in our post, Breakfast in Bucks: Fred’s Breakfast

The Golden Pheasant Inn
The best place to sit at the Golden Pheasant is on the terrace overlooking the canal. If you’re sitting in the Solarium Room, you can see the canal, and sometimes the river too, depending on the time of year. Read more about the Golden Pheasant Inn in our post, A nice way to spend a summer evening.

Gazing across the river at Lambertville and watching the river flow by is one of the nicest ways to spend an afternoon in New Hope, and Martine’s is the place to do it. When it’s cooler, move inside to the cozy and friendly bar.

Yardley Inn
Aren’t we lucky? Yet another good restaurant where you can sit and watch the river make its way towards Philadelphia. The Yardley Inn is one of our favorites, with a great menu strong on locally sourced ingredients (including from their own garden).

While the trees can sometimes obscure the canal, even just sitting at Hamilton’s, outside or in, you know it’s there. In the warmer months, sit in the courtyard shared by the restaurant and the Boathouse bar. It’s one of sweetest places to enjoy the season.
