November has started off quite nice. Sunny days, chilly nights, and plenty of seasonal treats (at least 16!) to go around. This week, check out some new fall menus, sip autumn cocktails, and learn about returning vets who have become farmers. And Thanksgiving, is right around the corner. New this November. Stop by the Karlton Cafe in Quakertown for their new monthly specials, many made with locally sourced ingredients. This November, it’s all about comfort food. Breakfast specials include everything from a lobster omelet to pumpkin cream cheese french toast. Lunch is where you can try out the spaghetti squash wrap, pomegranate salad, or the mac n’ cheese and stewed tomatoes with grilled Canadian bacon. If you want something on the run, pick up a seasonal latte or one of their hot soups, made daily. Check out the full menu here.

Food for Thought book club. This Tuesday, November 8, head to Bucks County’s only food-related book club, sponsored by the Doylestown Food Market. They meet the second Tuesday of every month at the Doylestown Book Store, beginning at 6:15 pm.
The book for thought this week is Project Animal Farm, by Sonia Faruqi. Faruqi was a graduate from Dartmouth College who worked at an investment bank on Wall Street before changing her career to investigating animal farms around the world.
She was on a mission to look into the world of farming, and figure out the truth about where our food comes from. Lively and heartfelt, Sonia takes readers on an unforgettable adventure from top-secret egg warehouses in Canada to dairy feedlots in the United States, from farm offices in Mexico to lush pastures in Belize, from flocks of village chickens in Indonesia to factory farms in Malaysia. The Doylestown Book Store is at 16 S Main St. in Doylestown.
Autumn cocktails. Earl’s New American at Peddler’s Village is hosting a local evening of food and cocktails on Thursday, November 10 from 6 – 9 pm. The dress is casual, so feel free to sport your favorite fall sweater. To RSVP, email email@example.com. Earl’s has been busy these past few months, including creating a new lunch menu. From the battlefields to farm fields. The Doylestown Food Market is partnering with Delaware Valley University this Thursday, November 10 for a showing of the film Ground Operations: Battlefields to Farmlands. The film will be followed by a panel discussion led by the film maker Dulaine Ellis. The film and the panel discussion will be held in DelVal’s Life Sciences building, located at the Admission Entrance off New Britain Road in Doylestown. Tickets are $10 for general admission. Co-op members pay $8 and DelVal students, faculty and staff are free.
About the film: Sgt. Adam Burke founded the Veterans Farm, a place of emotional solace and job training in organic blueberry production for disabled veterans. The film is an award-winning documentary film and social movement that shows how veterans can get jobs in organic farming.
Put wine on the calendar. You’ve probably heard of Beaujolais Nouveau. But these fresh, young wines don’t only come from France. The Bucks County Wine Trail rolls out its Nouveau wines this weekend, where five of the nine local wineries will offer newly fermented wine on November 12 – 13. All you wine lovers can taste the newest varieties during the weekend, and pick up some for the upcoming holiday dinners. Buckingham Valley Vineyards, Crossing Vineyards and Winery, New Hope Winery, Rushland Ridge Vineyards and Winery and Sand Castle Winery are offering Nouveau wine tastings during the event.
Depending on the winery, you may get to listen to live music while you sip. Hours are Saturday, 11 am – 6 pm, and Sunday 12 – 5 pm. To learn more about this event, visit the wine trail’s website.
