For people who are abstaining from eating meat during Lent—and even those that aren’t—, the Riegelsville Fire Company is frying up some fish this Friday. No matter the religion, you’ll be doing a good deed just by eating the food. All proceeds support the fire company. The fish dinner is from 5 – 7 pm. In the past, the fire company has seen anywhere from 140 – 150 guests, so make it a full house and grab your friends. [The fire company will hold the fish fry every Friday evening until March 25.]

3. Maple Sugar Day

Pouring Sap, The Pondhole

Learn how maple sugar was collected and made during the pioneer days at the Peace Valley Nature Center this Saturday. Walk into the woods to bring back maple sap to turn into the pancake’s best friend. Taste real syrup and compare it to the maple sugar and the taste of the sap itself. Waffles with maple syrup will be available for sale the day of the event. This free walk will be from 11 am – 1 pm, so dress for the weather! This is a great family friendly event.

4. Culinary Education Class

Saturday, Feb. 28, 2 – 3:30 pm, Sand Castle Winery, 755 River Road, Erwinna, PA

Wine and Dinner, Sand Castle Winery

When I’m looking for a good wine to pair with a special dinner, I find myself wandering aimlessly up and down the rows, unsure as to which wine will pair with my chicken or steak. If you spend an afternoon at Sand Castle Winery with CIA  graduate, Chef Scott Zabower, you can solve this dilemma.  He’ll show you how to prepare pork tenderloin three different ways and which wine will pair well. Full wine tasting is from 2 – 2:30 pm, and then the rest of the time will be the food and wine pairing demonstration. Buy tickets here for $45. Limited seating available.
