It’s the first weekend of March! The forecasts are always a little wishy-washy. Will it be cold or will it be warm? No matter, there are indoor and outdoor food events this weekend. Skip looking at the weather and go drink some beers, pick up some produce, and pretend that it’s a perfectly sunny day, even if it isn’t.

1. First Friday at Triumph Brewing

Friday, Mar. 4, 6 – 7:30 pm, Triumph Brewing Co., 400 Union Square, New Hope, PA

Caramel Corn, The Pondhole

Each month, Triumph Brewing Co. in New Hope hosts a ceremonial barrel tapping for First Friday. The German-style barrels hold new beers, and the supply is limited to about ten gallons. Also on First Friday, Triumph Brewing serves food from local food artisans. This Friday you’ll be able to munch on Clusters Caramel Corn, also located in New Hope. This gourmet popcorn is made fresh daily and is offered in a variety of flavors like original, peanut butter blast, cookie explosion, and white cheddar. The barrel tapping and snacks will be going on from 6 – 7:30 pm on Friday, March 4.

2. Yardley Farmers Market

Saturday, Mar. 5, 9 – 11 am, Yardley Friends Meeting, 65 North Main St., Yardley, PA

Lettuce, Yardley Farmers Market Facebook

Is anyone else out there wishing for those warm sunny spring days? Thankfully, there are local farmers markets that always have fresh produce, along with a lot of other local goodies. Don’t forget about the Yardley Farmers Market this weekend, which is open from 9 – 11 am on Saturday, March 5. They have 18 committed local vendors all selling naturally local products that they grow or produce. Try out some fresh lettuce from Maximucks Farm Market, which has more density and flavor than the bagged kind you get in the supermarket. Or, pick up some other treats and bring it back to your place for a late brunch (like the heavy cream from Fulper Family Farm).

3. Jam Tasting

Saturday, Mar. 5, 10 am – 5:15 pm, Manoff Market Gardens, 3157 Comfort Road, New Hope, PA

Jams, Manoff Market Gardens

Manoff Market Gardens in Solebury is having a jam fest this Saturday, March 5 all day. Stop by for some honey, local cheeses and apples too. Right now Manoff Market Gardens has five varieties of apples available, and according to Amy Manoff, “They are all delicious!”  Pick up their very own canned peaches to give yourself a taste of summer, or pick up some apple butter or gluten-free jams.

4. Teen TV Chef at Tubby Olive

Saturday, Mar. 5, 2 – 4 pm, The Tubby Olive, 17 South State Street, Newtown, PA

Jason Khaytin, The Tubby Olive website

If you are a sucker for the cooking channel, head over to the Tubby Olive in Newtown for some real live cooking by guest chef Jason Khaytin. Khaytin is a finalist in the first season of the Food Network’s “Chopped” Teen Tournament, and he is also a student at Council Rock South High School. This weekend, he’ll be preparing recipes featuring Tubby Olive’s spicy olive oils and vinegars. Spicy products are on sale throughout the store and there will be free tastings of what Khaytin whips up. He will be there from 2 – 4 pm on Saturday, March 5.

5. Bobolink Dairy Farm Pig Roast

Saturday, Mar. 5, 12 – 5 pm, Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse, 369 Stamets Road Milford, NJ

Pig Roast, Bobolink Farm website

* Not in Bucks County but this could make a good trip, especially if the weather is in our favor!

This Saturday, it’s pig roast time at the Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse just north of Frenchtown, NJ. One of their autumn whey-fed pigs will be rubbed with dry spices before being roasted slowly all morning in a Caja China, the famous Cuban creole above-ground portable roasting pit. They expect the pig to be done by about noon. You can buy roast pork and gravy sandwiches, or buy it by the pound to take home, complete with a side of gravy. The roast is available to-go, but if the weather is nice, expect to see some folks tailgating. Last year, the pig went fast, so the farm is recommending you reserve your sandwich or pig-to-go.

Have a great weekend!
