It may not technically be winter yet, but it’s really starting to feel like it, especially with last Thursday’s evening snow fall. Whether you love the cold or not, this season is such a wonderful time to really savor a cup of hot chocolate and sit down to a hot meal with friends. We’ve got some opportunities to do just that this week, so read on.
Stay warm. Head to the Tubby Olive in Doylestown for a Custom Tea Blending Class at 6:30 pm tomorrow night, Thursday, November 20. Learn the basics of blending from Deb Raab, Tea Specialist from Tea-For-All. You’ll get a chance to create your own signature blend to bring home with you.
Taste the season. Old York Cellars is hosting a Seasonal Wine Dinner on Thursday, November 20 at 6:30 pm. Four courses created by Chef Jonas Gold of 55 Main will be paired with Old York Cellars wine. Make your reservations right away to get a taste of his local pumpkin soup, goat cheese and roasted squash terrine, duck cassoulet and pumpkin creme brulee.
If you can’t make it to the dinner, the winery is combining the event with their Virtual Vines series, so tune in from home at 7 pm to hear from winemaker Scott Gares and sommelier Laurin Dorman.
Santa Clause is comin’ to town. Peddler’s Village’s annual Tree Lighting celebration is this Friday, November 21 at from 6 to 9 pm. Santa switches on the Village’s holiday light display at exactly 6:15 pm, so make sure you’re on time. Toast some marshmallows and enjoy some hot apple cider while you take in the scene.
Get ready. Next Thursday is Thanksgiving. There are plenty of restaurants in the area that offer the traditional meal for the holiday if you’d rather just relax and enjoy time with family and friends. To market, to market. The Doylestown and Wrightstown Farmers’ Markets hold their final market of the regular season this Saturday. At the Wrightstown Market, come for some delicious free food at their annual Customer/Vendor/Volunteer Appreciation Day. Join them this Saturday, November 22 for free coffee, soup, bread, cookies, nutty pumpkin bread, hot mulled cider, cider donuts and more.
Here’s what you’ll find at area farmers’ markets: Apples, apple cider, arugula, Asian greens, beets, bok choi, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, chilies, collard greens, endive, escarole, fennel, garlic, gourds, head lettuce, herbs, Indian corn, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, lima beans, mushrooms, mustard greens, onions, parsley, parsnips, potatoes, pumpkins, radicchio, radishes, red leaf lettuce, rutabaga, salad mix, shallots, spinach, winter squash, Swiss chard, turnips, and yams.
Most markets will also have: eggs from free-range chickens, grass-fed and pastured meats, preserves, specialty foods, baked goods like breads, cakes, cookies and pastries, cheese and yogurt, locally roasted coffee, and interesting crafts from local artisans.
