Bucks Food Calendar: January 18, 2013

The calendar gets a little quiet this time of year but here’s a few interesting tidbits coming up this week.

Compass Box whiskyEvery year the Yardley Inn puts on a whisky tasting dinner the Sunday of Martin Luther King Jr.’s Holiday, the thinking being you have Monday off to recuperate! We attended one of these dinners a couple of years ago and it was fantastic. This year the focus is on Compass Box Scotch whisky, a line of superbly blended whiskies from Scotland, including one of my favorites, Peat Monster. Chef Eben Copple creates a menu pairing food with different Scotches from Compass Box’s Signature Range. The cost is $85 per person and it’s a great deal. Snipes Farm and Education Center will be the host of a series of classes, Families Cook Together. Bring along your children ages 6 and up and make recipes together at the Fallsington Friends Meetinghouse. At the January session (this Saturday, January 19) the focus will be on breakfast recipes, February will be lunch recipes and in March dinner recipes. You’ll get to sample what you’ve made together, and get the recipes to try at home. The cost is $20 for parent and child. For more information or to register: 215-295-1139 Ext. 102 or colleens@snipesfarm.org.

Bobolink Dairy; photo by L. GoldmanWine and good cheese. Does it get any better? Unionville Vineyards in Ringoes, NJ will bring together their wines with artisanal cheese from Bobolink Dairy this Thursday, January 24. The event, which will begin at 7 pm, will feature Unionville’s wines by winemaker Cameron Stark and Bobolink’s cheeses, plus passed hors d’oevres featuring Bobolink meats to begin the evening. There will be a formal pairing session, navigated by Cameron and cheesemaker Jonathan White. Cost is $20 per person. Sign up by emailing Unionville’s tasting room coordinator, John Cifelli, at JCifelliUV@aol.com.
