4th Annual Rick Fest – October 15, 2011

As you know, I write about local food in Bucks County and nearby. But every so often, something else comes my way that isn’t food-related per se, and I’ve just got to tell people about it.

That’s the case with the 4th Annual Rick Fest, a local music festival happening this Saturday, October 15 in Wycombe, Pa. We found out about this annual gathering while sitting at the Wycombe Pub & Grill, one of our local watering holes. There we met Rick. Rick and his band – a garage band called Pierless that it turns out we have been hearing practice through the trees while sitting outside our house – will join jazz vocalist Ginni Corsello, singer Christy Jefferson, Nicole & Angelique, Danny Degennaro & the Kelly Bro’s, Rumours (a Fleetwood Mac tribute band), Southern Edge and Brooke Shive and the 45′s to play music all day and night, starting at 1:30 pm and going way past midnight.

What about the food? They’ll be a pig roast, and everyone is encouraged to bring an appetizer or dessert to share, as well as the beverage of your choice.

Not only does this sound like a lot of fun but it’s also meant to raise money for the Berry family children. You may have heard of this tragedy that happened in July. The Berry family was traveling home from a vacation in Colorado to Houston, TX when they were involved in a terrible car accident that killed both parents and paralyzed two of the three children. Their uncle and aunt, Matt and Simone Berry are now taking care of the children but the medical costs – and long term costs – are incalculable. (To learn more about the accident, see this article from the Huffington Post. To donate, see the family’s Facebook page.) In addition to accepting donations for the Berry family, there will be raffle prizes with proceeds benefiting the children.

This is really a local event. It will take place in Rick’s side yard at 775 Forest Grove Road in Wycombe, near the bridge. Arrive early to park or pitch your tents (10 am to noon). Sponsors include oWow Cow Creamery, Gorski Trash Removal, A&S Fencing, n2omedia.com, Pro Line Screen Printing (for the t-shirts, of course), P.R.T. (for the pig roast), Sherwin Williams and the Wycombe Pub & Grill. See you there!
