10 things you gotta do in Bucks this weekend (July 13-16)

The summer heat has brought us some real treats! The big news this weekend is peaches, available at area farms and farmers markets, as well as tomatoes, blueberries, and greens.

Stock up on this fresh produce for the weekend and plan a Sunday cookout, or check out the other foodie events happening all over Bucks.

1. Yardley Library on the Road: OWowCow Creamery

Friday, July 14, 3 – 5 pm, OWowCow, 591 Durham Rd., Newtown, PA

Yardley Library is hitting the road and taking a trip to O Wow Cow Creamery (at Carousel Village in Wrightstown) for some stories and a chance to learn about the resources offered at the library. Enjoy a sweet treat and a night of learning and fun!

2. Spaghetti Dinner

Friday, July 14, 5:30 – 7:30 pm, Delaware Valley Fire Company, 75 Headquarters Rd., Erwinna, PA

No need to cook this Friday night, but feel free to skip out on the usual pizza/take-out dinner.  Instead, enjoy a comforting spaghetti meal at the Delaware Valley Fire Company this Friday, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Cost for adults $10, seniors $9, emergency personnel $9, children six to 12 are $7 and children under six are free. Also, take-out is available and costs $11.

3. Farm to Table Dinner at Tabora Farms

Farm to table dinners have been popping up all over Bucks County, and that’s probably because it’s home to many family run farms. Tabora Farms in Chalfont is one of them, and this Friday they are hosting a farm to table dinner at their Chalfont location. There will be music, great food (of course) and the chance to meet other community members who support local and farm-fresh food. Call for tickets and availability at 215.249.3016.

4. Bastille Day Dinner at Hamilton’s Grill

Bastille Day at Hamiltons Grill Room If you’re seeing special menus or dinners for Bastille Day, here’s a little history for you. Bastille Day, or The National Celebration, was a turning point of the French Revolution during the Storming of the Bastille. Now, every July 14, people celebrate the unity of the French people.

At Hamilton’s Grill Room, you can honor Bastille Day with a special prix fixe menu featuring a complimentary champagne cocktail, hors d’oeuvres, classic bouillabaisse, and crepes suzette. Reserve online with Open Table or call 609.397.4343.

Also, it’s Bastille Day in Frenchtown, NJ. On Saturday, French cuisine will be served at participating restaurants. The highlight of the day will be a live performance by River Town Radio Theater in the ArtYard’s theater from 7:30 to 8:30 pm. ArtYard is at 62 Trenton Ave., adjacent to the Lovin’ Oven restaurant.

5. Wrightstown Farmers Market

It’s quite the weekend for mid-summer produce!

To start, the season’s first tomatoes are available at the Wrightstown Farmers MarketSolebury Orchards will have a good supply of blueberries and a limited amount of peaches – so make sure you stop by.

There’s a ton of veggies available too, like greenhouse grown heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, eggplant, green beans, summer squash, cucumbers, beets, turnips, cabbage, radishes, and more. Sweet corn is right around the corner! Also Milk House Farm Market is having a potted herb sale, and the Bonjour Creperie food truck and Warm Sugar Bakery will be there, too.

The other big produce item that’s now available in Bucks County is peaches! Here are some tips for picking peaches and where you can find these juicy beauties this summer.

6. Bluegrass and Blueberries

Saturday, July 15 and Sunday, July 16, 10 am – 6 pm, Peddler’s Village, Routes 202 & 263, Lahaska, PA

Blueberries and blueberry treats are plentiful this weekend at Peddler’s Village! Come hungry for locally grown blueberries and a line-up of the best bluegrass music in the region. The Family Fun Field and Artisan Market serves up local artists and crafters, live bands, bounces, rides, and more delicious blueberry treats. See website for schedule of events. The event is rain or shine and held on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

7. Pedal and Pub

Saturday, July 15, 10 am – 1 pm, Ride starts at parking lot across from Bucks County Civil War Museum, 32 N. Broad St., Doylestown, PA

Pedal around scenic Doylestown and learn about its history this Saturday, July 15. After the ride, experience the town’s current hospitality with a tasting of craft beers at Hops Bar and Grill. The pub is part of the Doylestown Brewing Company, which is the latest chapter in a family story that spans three generations in the beer industry. The ride starts at the parking lot across from the Bucks County Civil War Museum.

8. Morrisville Restaurant Week Begins

Morrisville is hosting its first restaurant week, beginning this Sunday July 16 and ending July 22. Seven restaurants are participating including: Café Antonios, Dacey’s Pub, Salute Ristorante, Michael’s Restaurant and Lounge, Concerto Fusion, Anthony’s IV, and LaVilla. 9. Summer Pig Roast

Sand Castle Wine

Sand Castle Winery’s annual summer pig roast is this Sunday. Enjoy beautiful scenery, an old-fashioned style pig roast with all the fixings and a glass of your favorite Sand Castle Wine.

Tickets are $35 per person (over 21 yrs) $25 per person (6-12 yrs). Note: Please call the winery directly to order children’s tickets. Children under five – free of charge. Menu is as follows: Whole roasted pig stuffed with pineapple bread stuffing, Cole slaw, baked beans, red bliss potato salad and kaiser rolls. Sides include cheese, hot and sweet peppers and pickles. Signature BBQ sauce and homemade pork gravy is available. And don’t forget glass of your favorite Sand Castle wine and souvenir glass. Buy tickets here.

10. Music on the Farm and Pig Roast

There’s nothing like a summer afternoon of food and music. Head to Bobolink Dairy and Bakehouse (which is outside of county lines but is too good to pass up!) for their annual music on the farm event with a pig roast.

On July 16, they will present the Mitchell Cheng Trio. Mitchell Cheng is a pianist and composer born in Bucks County. From an early age he was mentored by musicians in the New York and Pocono jazz scene. His music draws influence from bebop, rock, Motown, and Americana blues styles.

Get out your picnic blanket or beach chairs, and join in for spirited jazz and great farm-to-table food. Reserve your roast pig sandwich in advance here, and enjoy burgers, cheese plates, and veggies from the garden. BYOB and kids welcome, no dogs please.
