8 things you gotta do in Bucks this weekend (Mar 11 – 13)

The sun is shining, the birds are singing—it’s finally smelling like spring. What a wonderful weekend it will be, because not only is the weather looking good, it’s a weekend filled with food events. Enjoy a lobster feast, sample a seven course meal, or pick up some local wines for a weekend of lounging in the sun.


1. Irish Celebration Wine Sale

Friday, Mar. 11, 10 am – 6 pm, Peace Valley Winery, Old Limekiln Road, Chalfont, PA

While you might not be able to find green wine at the Peace Valley Winery, you can find some special deals on wines to celebrate the Irish. During the weekend of Friday, March 11 through Sunday, March 13, come to the winery to kiss their green rock (blarney stone), and pick up some Chardonnay, New Britain White, and Fredonia, which are all on sale for 10%. It should be a warm weekend for the winery!

2. Ribbon Cutting at Altomonte’s

Altomonte’s, the popular Italian market and deli in Warminster and Doylestown, has moved its Doylestown store just up the road. The new, much bigger store also has a dining area, so you can try out some of their sandwiches or hoagies. This Friday stop by at 11 am for the ribbon cutting. Bring family and friends for this special event!

3. Lobster Feast

Friday, Mar. 11 – 13, lunch and dinner, Cock ‘n Bull, Peddler’s Village, Routes 202 & 263, Lahaska, PA

Taste New England style seafood at the Lobster Feast at the Cock ‘n Bull restaurant, Peddler’s Village. The celebration starts on Friday, March 11 and ends Sunday, March 13. The menu includes a lobster boil for $38, which is a two pound Maine lobster, cooked in a traditional Old Bay boil, served with lemons, drawn butter, boiled parsley potatoes, corn on the cob, fresh coleslaw. Try an appetizer of little neck clams or mussels marinara and try blueberry pie for dessert. Pricing for the lobster feast can be found here.

4. Port Wine for Beginners

Learn about what Port wine is and a little bit into the history and geography of where the wine was produced at this new event. This Friday, March 11 at 7 pm, the Crossing Vineyards and Winery has a new class for $35 that lets you sample some of the different styles of Port. 5. Spring Breakfast and Craft Show

Quakertown Cares is hosting its 20th anniversary all-you-can-eat breakfast and craft show this Saturday, March 12 from 7 – 11:30 am. The cost is $6 for adults, $4 for students. The Easter Bunny will be there to take pictures. Breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, coffee, juice, and more. Quakertown Cares’ mission is to aid Quakertown area veterans, senior citizens, and families in need.

6. Last Chance Ranch Flapjacks Fundraiser

Head out to Applebee’s Quakertown on Saturday, March 12 from 8 – 10 am to support a local animal rescue called Last Chance Ranch. Their volunteers and staff will be serving all you can eat pancakes and sausage, along with coffee and other beverages. There will be a basket auction and 50/50 drawing. Tickets are $7 for adults or $4 for children under 12. Tickets can be purchased in advanced at the LCR office in person or on the phone or at the door. Call 215.538.2510.

7. Wrightstown Farmers Market

It’s feeling like spring so it’s the perfect time to head to the Wrightstown Farmers market. Right now, the market has fresh produce, cheeses, fruit, meat bread, and fermented and prepared food. A reminder, this market will be held twice a month, on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 10 – 11 am at the usual place. Some vendors that will be there include Apple Ridge Farm, Roots to River Farm, Bee Well Honey, LUHV and more.

8. Winemaker’s Dinner

Sunday, Mar. 12, 1 – 4 pm, Sand Castle Winery, 755 River Road, Erwinna, PA

Come to this wine soiree at the Sand Castle Winery on Sunday, March 13 from 1 – 4 pm. Enjoy wine when you arrive before the winemaker’s dinner, which will start at 2 pm and end at 4 pm. Winemaster Joseph Maxian and the Executive Chef of The Red Cedar Grille, Theo Charitos will be preparing a seven course dinner to be paired with Sand Castle’s wines. Tickets are $65 per person plus tax and must be purchased in advance online. Please call the event coordinator at 610.294.8303 with any questions. Here’s the full menu:
  • First course: Smoked portabello mushroom, sun dried tomato and shredded kale, potato gnocchi tossed in a citrus zested aglio olio, topped with shaved manchego
  • Second course: Lump crab bisque crème fraiche
  • Third course: Mitchell foundation greens, shaved asiago, blackberries and toasted cashew, honey lime dressing
  • Fourth course: Poached pear, toasted Red Cedar brioche, red pepper coulis, bourbon braised pork belly and crispy basil
  • Fifth course: 12 hour braised duck confit, honey crisp apple “fondu” Sweet Potato and boursin cake, candied peppered bacon crispy leeks
  • Sixth course: Coffee spiked chocolate torte, salted cashew, warm caramel, cherry compote
  • Seventh course: Solomon’s vanilla ice cream Tavern Night
