Bucks Food Calendar: January 22, 2014

Rye whiskey at the Yardley InnBrrrrrr. Time for a fire and a warm beverage.

This is the first Lambertville-New Hope Winter Fest in my memory where we actually have, well, winter. If you are going to the parade on Saturday, dress warmly. Although I mentioned all the festival’s food events last week, here’s a quick overview. I’ve checked their website and so far nothing seems to be sold out.

The Taste of Winter Fest is tomorrow night at the Eagle Fire Company. Come sample food from area restaurants like Hamilton’s Grill, El Tule, Marsha Brown’s, Nina’s Waffles, Hearth and area wineries. On Saturday, Triumph Brewing Company hosts Beef n Brew from 1 pm to 4 pm. Saturday night is a special dinner honoring local chef Jim Hamilton for all that he has contributed to the community. Get up early for the Pancake Breakfast at New Hope-Solebury High School, and then hang out catching the ice sculptures or doing a gallery crawl until the 18th Annual Chili Cook-Off at 1 pm. For a full schedule of events, click here.

Have you ever wassailed? Here’s your chance. Terhune Orchards in Princeton will be holding their annual Wassailing of the Apple Trees this Sunday. It is an ancient British tradition meant to protect the orchards and insure a successful crop for the next season. Activities include dancing and singing by the Molly Dancers and re-enactments of old English traditional rituals, toasts of hot cider and placing gifts of cider-soaked bread in the tree branches. For more information see their website.

Robert Burns This Friday, the Black Bass Hotel will present their 5th Burns Night dinner, celebrating the famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns.  Frankly, it’s a great excuse to eat good food and wash it down with some nice whiskey. The $115 per person prix fixe menu includes liquor, tax and tip. For the full menu, see their website.

Cheese anyone? Snipes Farm and Education Center is teaching a course on “Making Soft Cheese at Home” on Saturday from 10 am – 12 pm. Click here for more information.

Onions at WFM (c) 2014 Lynne GoldmanTo market, to market. This weekend pick up some locally produced and grown food at several area farmers’ markets. The Wrightstown Farmers’ Winter Mini-Market takes place on Saturday from 10 – 11 am (more info). The Ottsville Indoor Farmers Market is also Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm in the greenhouse at Linden Hill Gardens (more info). Check out the Stockton Market too, where Milk House Farm and other vendors bring in local produce and products.
