The free event will be moderated by Brenda Slack, a director of the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance and fourth-generation farmer in Newtown.

This will provide not only a forum for the farmers themselves to talk about issues related to farming and its future in Bucks County,” says Slack, who raises chickens and produce on 30 of her family’s 120-acre farm. “We’re also encouraging consumers—that’s anyone who lives and eats in Bucks—to attend to meet their local farmers, learn what they produce and develop a better understanding of what they face in bringing fresh, nutritious, sustainably grown food and other products to market across the seasons.

The forum should be of special interest to the 50 or so farmers in Bucks, restaurant owners and local chefs, grocery and specialty food store owners, people concerned about farming and land preservation in the county, and young people interested in learning about farming through their involvement with 4-H groups, employment at local farms, or study of agriculture at the college level.

We want to help build strong, lasting, cooperative farmer-to-farmer and consumer-to-farmer relationships,” says Slack, “because we believe this is the way to ensure that Bucks County agriculture thrives, its farmers make a respectable living and all consumers know where their food comes from.
