Lots of changes going on in Bucks and nearby—openings, closings, new menus, construction, and even, Uzbek cuisine.
Welcome Angelina’s Princess of Pies. This New York style pizzeria just opened in January in Warminster. In addition to all the usual yummy stuff, they are offering SIX types of gourmet egg rolls (Cheese Steak, Reuben, Cuban, Buffalo Chicken, Pizza, Grilled Chicken) and arancini (rice balls). Not your typical pizzeria. New York native, Chef Joe Fallacaro, knows how to make a real New York style pizza too. All of the sauces are house-made and Angelina’s is committed to using locally grown produce in season. Check out their website for the full menu and visit them at 216 W. Uzbek in Feasterville. I have just discovered that we have a Uzbek restaurant in Bucks County! Samarkand is a restaurant featuring dishes from Uzbekistan, the Central Asian country. It came to my attention because the Slow Food Philadelphia chapter is having a dinner there on Monday, March 2. Here’s some of the dishes on the menu for that evening: Shurpa Samarkand (soup) (lamb breast, potatoes & chick peas), Dimlama Sogdiana (lamb breast, vegetables & spices), and House Special Plov served with Achchik-Chuchuk (tomatoes, onions, herbs & spices). Milford Oyster House launches a new menu. After taking some time off, the Milford Oyster House (Milford, NJ, just north of Frenchtown) reopened on January 23 with a new menu. Some of the new dishes: Clams Casino (“buttery bites of bacon-clam goodness”); Shrimp Citron, a delicately battered shrimp accompanied by a piquant creamy-lemon sauce; Parmesan-crusted Shrimp accompanied by a zesty pesto aioli; and Pan-fried Sea Scallops. And for all you lobster lovers, they now offer a 10 ounce broiled lobster tail all the time. Check out the full new menu here.
The Lumberville General Store is undergoing construction and finding all kinds of surprises in the process. When the workers demolished the ceilings, floors and a few other areas—and the drywall started coming down—hidden windows and beautiful stone walls were exposed. Two fireplaces—one in each sitting room—were also found to be in good condition. When they reopen, the menu will expand, including coffee options, homemade ice creams, and house-smoked meats. Goodbyes. Unfortunately, both Dancing Pig BBQ and Gross’s Gourmet have closed their doors, both due to health issues of the owners.
The Dancing Pig in Dublin has been serving up great barbecue since 2010. In fact, last year alone they cooked over 6,000 racks of ribs, 5 tons of pork shoulders, 4 ½ tons of brisket, and 2 tons of chicken and grew the business 30%. Unfortunately both Mr. B and Mrs. B are both struggling with health issues and can’t do the hard physical work required of a restaurant (who can?). The restaurant is for sale—turn-key—so if you know of anyone who may be interested in opening a BBQ place in Dublin, here’s the link to information about buying.
Gross’ Gourmet has also closed its doors due to health problems. Gross’ has been a mainstay of the Doylestown food scene for years and we’re sorry to see it go. The Bilottas, Leslie and Andy, have given so much to the Doylestown community, and are having a challenging time now making ends meet.
