Tidbit: Earl’s Bucks County starts a garden
Earl’s Bucks County has just started their own garden “out back” behind the Peddler’s Village restaurant, populated with organic herbs and vegetable plants from Peace Tree Farm in Kintersville. Pretty cool. The produce will, of course, be used in the restaurant all season long. Kitchen gardens are a practice that has become more common among restaurants aiming to provide fresh, all natural, seasonal ingredients for their menus. Nice to have such an establishment in our backyard, so to speak, and in line with Earl’s switch to a more locally sourced menu.
Peace Tree Farm (inspired by the Native American word “tohickon,” which means “peace tree”) is located in Kintnersville, in Upper Bucks County. The farm, purchased by Lloyd and Candy Traven in 1983, encompases an acre of greenhouses on a historic 25-acre farm. In February 2009 Peace Tree Farm became one of the first greenhouse operations in the region to obtain organic certification. They grow herbs, begonias, poinsettias as well as specialty annuals and blooming potted crops, mostly for wholesale. You can learn more about them at their Web site.
