Running through Delaware Valley University’s beautiful campus is a pastime for students and community members from all over Bucks County. The campus is the perfect place for a stroll or to walk the dog, and on Saturday October 3, 2015, it will be where the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance (BCFA) and the Bucks County chapter of Buy Fresh Buy Local® will host its 1st Annual Bucks County Foodshed 5K and 1-mile Fun Run.
The BCFA is a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to rebuilding a resident local food system in our community through education and collaboration. The run will be a great way to connect with the land and aid BCFA in their goal to strengthen farming economy and improve the availability of local, healthy, and sustainably grown food.
“If running through the former ‘farm school’ campus isn’t enough to tie the event to our mission, our prizes for the top runners include many ‘local foodie’ styled items,” said Susan Pierson, BCFA board president.
What kind of prizes could that mean for the runners? Pierson said anything from gift certificates to local restaurants to veggies and fruits from local farmers are fair game.
The course runs through comfortable terrain entirely within DVU’s rural campus — no public roads and no rough or grass paths. The campus has scenic views, everything from the working campus farms to the arboretum is enough to keep a runner motivated and moving forward.
