Bucks Food Calendar: September 6, 2016

Apples, Solebury Orchards

The three-day weekend has come and gone, so hopefully got in one last summer BBQ or dip in the pool. Now it’s time to pack up your white clothes, break out the sweaters, and say hello to pumpkin spice everything.

It’s sad to see summer come to an end, but we’ve gathered some great foodie events coming up this month that will get you excited for your next fall outing. Be sure to check out what’s happening this week in Bucks County!

Lunch

Community lunch. In need of lunch? On Wednesday, September 7 from 12 – 2 pm enjoy a community lunch at the Centenary United Methodist Church, on North Union Street, in Lambertville, NJ. It’s a free lunch that is open to all. The lunch is made using organic and local ingredients. Come meet your neighbors!

Schnitzel, Driftless Appetite

Wednesday Schnitzel night. Join the United German Hungarians in Bensalem for a Schnitzel Night at the club, every first Wednesday of the month. Dinner is $11 for adults and $5 for children, dessert is available for purchase, and there is a fully stocked cash bar. You also get two side dishes plus a salad, bread and butter, coffee or tea. The meal includes schnitzel (pork), red cabbage, and spaetzle (dumplings). The dinner begins at 5:30 pm.

FermentationFermentation fun! Learn how to make your own sauerkraut at a hands-on-workshop presented by the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance and the Bucks County chapter of Buy Fresh Buy Local® on Wednesday, September 7 from 7 – 9 pm. Attendees will make kraut with cabbage, carrots, ginger, garlic and other seasonal vegetables.

Guests will leave the workshop with a healthy, sour and crunchy kraut that will last in the fridge for a few months. For this class, bring a large sharp knife, cutting board, large bowl and a kitchen cloth. Registration is not required and there is no charge. Donations are encouraged. The fermentation class is held at the Plumsteadville Grange.

Apples, Solebury Orchards

It’s apple season! Buh-bye summer, hello fall! You can tell that autumn is here by taking a look into the apple trees. Early season apples are available at Manoff Market Gardens and Solebury Orchards both in Solebury, PA. You will probably find Gala and Sanza varieties, and maybe Ginger Gold. Manoff’s still has peaches, nectarines and raspberries – but they are going fast so get there this week. Check Manoff’s Facebook page and Solebury Orchards’ Facebook page for up to date information.
