Bucks Food Calendar: September 19, 2016

Savour

This weekend, I made my first apple pie of the season (using fresh-picked apples of course). Needless to say, it’s almost all gone. Soon it will be time for an annual “where to pick apples” post, since Bucks County has apple trees galore. Plus, the farms have more varieties of the fruit than your bag can handle! In the meantime, check out what’s happening this week, including a free dinner, tastes of the Jersey shore, and burgers that benefit a good cause.

Fried Chicken

Free dinner. This Monday, come enjoy a free dinner from the Presbyterian Church of Deep Run in Perkasie. The church hosts this monthly dinner every third Monday of the month. The menu this month is fried chicken and vegetables, with yummy desserts afterwards. The meal is served in Hoopes Hall from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm. Visit their website for more information.

If you can’t make it to Deep Run, the Christ Community Bible Church is hosting its free meal for the community on Wednesday, September 21, at 5:30 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. If you’re planning to help serve, the church asks that you sign up in the foyer so they know how many to count on. Also, arrive by 5 pm that evening.

Hamilton's Grill Room
Last Jersey Shore night.
It has been a great summer for the Hamilton’s Grill Room Jersey Shore dinners. Your last chance to try out this meal is this week, Tuesday through Thursday, September 20 – 22, if there are still reservations left. It’s an enjoyable evening along the banks of the Delaware River Canal, filled with local seafood and produce.

Here’s the lineup: Start with fresh Jersey tomatoes with garlic and basil oil. Then bring on the Littleneck clams and mussels, followed by 1/2 of a steamed Maine lobster. Enjoy chicken thighs, sweet sausage, potatoes, cole slaw and fresh Jersey corn. Finish dinner with homemade peach pie. Reserve online with Open Table here or call 609.397.4343. The dinner is $40 per person plus tax and gratuity. The regular dinner menu will not be served but special requests will be accepted.

Savour
Also at Hamilton’s Grill Room: Wednesdays for Women is back in action! This Wednesday, September 21, Shawn Robbins will talk about her experiences with her new shop in Lambertville, Savour Cheese and Gourmet Provisions, which brings in fabulous imported cheeses and other goodies. Each evening of Wednesdays for Women begins at 6:30 pm with a 20-minute presentation followed by a three-course dinner, including coffee or tea. Later in the evening you can mingle and meet new people, so bring your business cards! Open Table will not take your reservation so email Hamilton’s Grill Room directly.

Burgers
Burgers and Tacos for a good cause.

The Hattery Stove & Still is partnering with the Travis Manion Foundation for the second time this summer for a “pay what you want” burger and taco fundraiser on Wednesday, September 21, from 5 pm – 10 pm. The Hattery is throwing in its chipotle shrimp tacos as another dinner option, as well as its lineup of burgers.

Diners can choose from five different burgers as well as the shrimp tacos. The burgers come served on a toasted brioche bun with french fries and are usually priced at $14 per piece. The tacos come three to an order and include black bean puree, pickled Asian slaw, papaya salsa, and avocado. They’re usually priced at $13.

The Travis Manion Foundation empowers veterans and families of fallen heroes to develop character in future generations. Manion, who grew up in Doylestown, was killed in action in Iraq in 2007 while trying to protect his wounded comrades.
