Bucks Food Calendar: September 13, 2013

Wycombe Vineyards grape harvestThe word for this week – and month – is HARVEST. Everywhere I look on the food calendar there are harvest festivals going on. Farm-to-table dinners, wine festivals and farmers’ markets bursting with beautiful vegetables. Wycombe Vineyards is even calling for volunteer grape-pickers to help bring in their grape harvest (Sunday, 9/15, lunch provided). Be part of the harvest!

farm2tableFarm-to-table dinners. We’ve got two this week and more coming later in the month (see the full calendar here). On Tuesday evening, join chef and author Ian Knauer at the Stockton Market at 6 pm for a dinner featuring food from Stockton Market vendors, including hors d’oeuvres and a four course dinner. Tickets are $85.00 per person and include Knauer’s latest book, Eggs!. Seating is limited to 20. BYOB.

The Yardley Inn is hosting a Harvest Dinner which includes a tour of their Riverside Kitchen Garden and their farm plot on River Road, continuing with actual harvesting of some ingredients for the evening’s meal, and concluding with a full meal, all sourced locally and many grown on the Inn’s own soil. “The whole idea is that everything will be as close to home as possible,” says Chef Eben. “All the produce will be from the garden. All the meat will be local. All the drinks will be local or as close as quality will allow.” Look for wine from Blair Vineyard (Lehigh Valley), a beer Vault (Yardley), and a cocktail using Dad’s Hat Rye from Bristol. Cost is $55 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Call the Inn at 215-493-3800 or visit www.yardleyinn.com to RSVP.

Judy Wicks_Good MorningCalifornia may have Alice Waters (pioneer of the farm to table movement) but the Delaware Valley has its own local food ground-breaker, Judy Wicks (White Dog Cafe, among other things). Wicks will be at the Stockton Market on this Sunday, 9/15, signing her book, Good Morning, Beautiful Business, about her life as an entrepreneur, supporter of local economies and food pioneer. Meet her from 10 am to 1 pm in Stockton.

To market, to market. New arrivals! Fall greens like kale, spinach, collards, Swiss and French chard, mustard greens and more.
