Bucks Food Calendar: October 4, 2013

Fall at Center FarmOctober! What a gorgeous time of year. I’m finally accepting that summer is over – although with the temps this week you wouldn’t know it. Bucks County is full of delicious things this week. Here are some of the highlights.

Wine Harvest Festivals. This weekend is the Bucks County Wine Trail’s Harvest Celebration and many area wineries have special events scheduled, like Rose Bank Winery and Crossing Vineyards. Want to really experience the wine harvest? Wycombe Vineyards in Forest Grove (Buckingham Township) is asking for volunteers this Sunday to help bring in their Chambourcin grapes. Click here for more information.

In Riegelsville, the 3rd Annual Wine & Harvest Party will take place this Saturday. A benefit for the Riegelsville Library, it features a wine and harvest hors d’oeuvres and dessert tasting under a tent on the grounds of the historic library. There will also be a silent auction, a wine raffle, and live music by Blue Sugar Band. Tickets are $45 per person and payable in advance. The library is located at 615 Easton Road in Riegelsville, PA. For more information: 610-749- 2357 or WineAndHarvest@gmail.com.

Fall Festivals. The annual Ottsville Fall Festival also takes place this weekend at Linden Hill Gardens. There will be delicious food, pumpkins, seasonal plants and handmade wares by local artisans.

On Saturday, drop by Newtown for their historic fall celebration, Market Day, featuring crafters, artisans, fine arts, entertainment and food. Over 50 crafters will present a wide variety of interesting crafts. There will also be a Farmer’s Market, folk music, children’s activities, games, horse-drawn hayrides and a colonial militia encampment. Local restaurants are participating in the “Festival of Foods” and Open Hearth Cooking will also be demonstrated. Activities will be held in and around historic Court Street & Centre Avenue from 10 am to 4 pm.

Ice Cream ConesFood for a good cause. Enjoy a night out eating dinner and dessert with the family while helping another family in our community. Tuesday evening at the Dairy Queen in Doylestown, come out and support a local father who suffers from an aggressive incurable brain cancer called Glioblastoma (GBM). The father is only 43 years old. Twenty-five percent of the profits will go to this family to help pay medical bills and everyday expenses. The event begins at 5 pm.

The Kitchen Garden School in Upper Black Eddy still has room in their class on Saturday evening for a South Indian Feast Farm to Table Dinner. Learn about the great food in the south of India (most of what we have in Indian restaurants around here tends to be Northern India) and eat some very good food. Click here to sign up.
