Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. From the changing of the leaves, to the crisp and cool mornings, and, let’s not forget, the return of pumpkin-flavored everything — fall has a lot to offer. Whether it be the pairing of a good wine with a homemade butternut squash soup, or maybe a local IPA that is fresh like the season. Events in Bucks County this week will give you those tastes and more (you just need to know where to look).

Jim Hamilton's Cooking Class Series

Learn how to cook a four-course harvest dinner from Jim Hamilton himself. On Tuesday, October 13 at 6:30 – 8:30 pm stop by Hamilton’s Grill Room for a step-by-step open kitchen demonstration, and see Mr. Hamilton present a guest chef each month, which will highlight the best our local restaurants and farms have to offer. Jim Hamilton’s Atelier Cooking Class series will occur on the second Tuesday of each month and is $65 per person. Email or call 609.397.3200 to reserve.

There’s another dinner going on in Langhorne at Bella Tori at the Mansion starting at 6 pm on Thursday, October 15. The Harvest Wine Dinner will include a five-course meal paired with five wines, expertly chosen by Eric Yacker, the general manager and Certified Sommelier. Here’s a “taste” of the menu: New England crab & corn chowder with Chardonnay (Louis Jadot, Macon Village, Macon France); Autumn salad baby spinach with butternut squash croutons, red onions, crumbled Applewood smoked bacon, dried cranberries, and finished with a warm orange honey vinaigrette, paired with Riesling (Pierre Sparr, Alsace, France); Confit de cunard over risotto duck confit, with wild mushroom ragu, served over parmesan risotto and paired with Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley Vineyards, Willamette Valley Oregon); petit New York strip with red wine barbeque demi petit New York strip steak with a red wine barbeque demi; and dessert (!)is a dark chocolate bread pudding with raisins and dark chocolate, finished with a maple drizzle and paired with Sandeman (Tawny Port, Douro Portugal).

Tickets are $80 and you must call to reserve your spot at 215.702.9600.

10th Annual Upper Bucks Foodie

Start the weekend early on Thursday, October 15 with the 10th Annual Upper Bucks Foodie at the Sands Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Quakertown. The Foodie provides the community with an evening of food, beer, wine, and spirits sampling while listening to live entertainment. It is an opportunity for the area’s dining establishments, breweries, and wineries to feature and sample their products — and you’re guaranteed it will be more than just a light sampling. The event supports the Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Foundation and Upper Bucks Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Tickets are $40 and you can register here.
