Bucks Food Calendar: November 9, 2012

It looks like we have a beautiful Fall weekend coming up. Weird week. Snow, now warm weather. Climate change? Nah.

Beer & Ballet? You bet. The Roxey Ballet Company in Lambertville is holding an event this evening, Friday, November 9, that offers local brews while enjoying dance demonstrations by the company. Throughout the evening, guests will have the opportunity to engage in discussions with Roxey dancers as they share perspectives on the creative dance process. It all starts at 6:30 pm at Canal Studios 243 North Union Street in Lambertville, NJ. Cost is $20/person.

Wine, wine, wine. On Tuesday night, November 13, at the Washington House in Sellersville you can enjoy a wine tasting dinner that is all about wine pairings for Thanksgiving. What a great way to get ready for the holiday!  The Spinnerstown Hotel is also hosting a wine tasting featuring the wines of Chateau Ste. Michelle on Wednesday, November 14.

Thanksgiving. Speaking of the turkey holiday, we posted two articles this week that will help you get ready. 2012 – Going out for Thanksgiving is this year’s edition of where you can eat out for the holiday at local restaurants. Apparently a lot of people are doing it these days. It’s probably our most popular post of the year. If you are doing the holiday at home, consider getting a fresh – not frozen – turkey. Click here for our post about where to find them in Bucks.

Church suppers and firehouse breakfasts. Check out the annual Roast Beef Dinner at the Chalfont United Methodist Church in Chalfont on Saturday or the Pork and Sauerkraut Dinner at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Quakertown, both on Saturday (details below). There are two firehouse breakfasts on Sunday morning; one at the Silverdale Fire Company and the other at the Upper Black Eddy Fire Company.

To market, to market. The Stockton Market is reopening this weekend after getting their power back. Yaay. Other local farmers’ markets that are still open are the Wrightstown Farmers’ Market and the Doylestown Farmers’ Market, both on Saturday morning. It’s a great time to stock up for the winter. Here’s what you can expect to find at the markets: spinach, carrots, potatoes, garlic, onions, leeks, broccoli, cabbages, celery root, beets, turnips, lettuces, chard, collards, kale varieties, radishes, parsley, winter squash, diverse mushrooms, freshly pressed apple cider and apples. Many markets will also have pasture-raised meats, free-range eggs, baked goods, specialty foods and more.
