Bucks Food Calendar: November 30, 2012

Ah, there’s no denying it. The holiday season is upon us. I especially notice it in the food calendar – holiday cooking classes, cookie sales, and holiday parties.  In some ways the calendar gets quieter; I guess as the holidays approach, people celebrate more privately, at parties and dinners with co-workers, friends and family.

It’s also a good time of year to think about those in need. Food pantries still desperately need donations (click here for a list of local pantries). This Sunday, stop by Hickory Kitchen in Doylestown for some great food and to support A Woman’s Place (AWP). AWP provides service and shelter to abused women and children. Hickory Kitchen will give 20% of all sales to AWP from 9 am to 7 pm all day Sunday.

Need a gift for the foodie in your life? Bucks County Taste is doing a series of posts on great local foodie gifts. This week we focused on olive oil. There are some wonderful stores in Bucks County selling gourmet olive oils, vinegars and other tasty foods. Local foodie gifts: Olive Oil will tell you all about extra virgin olive oil and where to buy it in Bucks.

On Wednesday, December 5 come to the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance‘s Holiday Gifts from the Farm, an opportunity to buy gifts that come from local producers and farmers. The event takes place from 2 pm to 8 pm in the Community Room at the Northampton Township Public Library at 25 Upper Holland Road in Richboro. You’ll find gift baskets, beautiful handmade alpaca and woolen gifts, handmade candles from locally produced beeswax, gourmet, freshly roasted, fair trade coffees, door swags from freshly cut evergreen boughs, preserves, jams, jellies, nut butters, handmade soaps and lotions, handcrafted wooden bowls and woodenware and more. And you’ll be supported local vendors.

Want to sharpen your cooking and entertaining skills this holiday season? Check out The Cooking Cottage in Sellersville. Peggi Claus (no relation) has been running this cozy cooking school for 22 years. This time of year she offers classes in Cocktail Party Favorites (this Sunday and Monday), Christmas Tea (this Thursday) and several dates for her popular Christmas Cookies class.
