Bucks Food Calendar: November 21, 2016

My mouth is already watering thinking about some of the traditional Thanksgiving sides I get to eat this year. For me, the holiday was always about reflecting on health and family. Before we ate, we would go around the table and share a few things that we were thankful for, and then gorge on the feast my dad had prepared for us.

This week, eat out in Bucks County so you don’t have to worry about cooking on the days leading up to Thanksgiving. Be sure to reflect on all you are thankful for this year, whether it’s clean water, access to healthy, local food, or even time spent with family. We live in a great community, and we are thankful to share it with you!

Wycombe Publick House

Don’t want to cook this week? If your family is like mine, the days leading up to Thanksgiving are normally filled with leftovers, frozen food, and takeout for dinner. Save some time in the kitchen this week by dining out and checking some of the local weekly dinner specials. Here are a few we thought we’d highlight. Check our calendar for more events!

  • Burger Night: Wycombe Publick House hosts burger night every Monday from 4 – 10 pm. Burgers are $2 off. The restaurant’s happy hour is from 4 – 6 pm Monday through Friday and half-price growler fills are during this time.
  • Locals Night: Karla’s Restaurant in New Hope has one of the first locals nights in the area!
  • Monday Night Mexican & Blues Night: Mexican and blues at Fran’s Pub in New Hope. Fran’s Pub also has a steak night on Wednesdays from 5:30 – 10 pm.
  • Burgers at McCoole’s: McCoole’s Red Lion Inn in Quakertown has $6.99 beef, chicken and portabella burgers on Tuesdays.
  • Community Lunch: The Centenary United Methodist Church in Lambertville hosts a free lunch. This Wednesday from 12 – 2 pm come to enjoy great, local food. Meet your neighbors, too!
  • Weeknights at Brian’s: Brian’s restaurant in Lambertville has a weeknight three-course prix fixe meal for $45. It’s BYOB and cash/check only.

For more weeknight Locals’ Night specials, see our post: Here’s to the Locals

Covivium Brewery fun before the holiday. This Wednesday, November 23 the Bucks County Brewery is open from 3 – 10 pm. Joe Hutchinson will be playing tunes, and it’s the last time before Thanksgiving to pick up some bottles of Convivium, the brewery’s Thanksgiving release.

Convivium is fermented with Saison and Belgian Abbey yeasts to add layers of delicious flavor, and it comes as “traditional” and “infused with cranberry.” The beers are made to go well with Thanksgiving turkey, and as Andrew Knechtel, master brewer says, it’s “brewed for one meal, and one meal only!”

Bobolink Dairy and BakehouseGrass-fed beef and whey-fed pork is in! Bobolink Dairy & Bakehouse is a great local stop for all of your cheese and dairy needs, but it’s also great if you want fresh cuts of meat. Right now, the farm has whey-fed pork. Whey is a by-product of the farm’s cheesemaking, so the pigs get plenty of fresh air, pasture, and leftovers from the bakery too. If you want fresh cuts of meat, check out how to order online here or give them a call for more information.

Empanada Mama
Let “mama”
do the cooking this week. Again, for all of you that just don’t want to cook this week, there are plenty of local options for dinners and lunches. Try Empanada Mama this week since they are open up until Thanksgiving, Monday through Wednesday from 11 am – 7 pm. Chicken pot pie, BA beef, spinach & feta, and other seasonal empanadas are calling your name. Also, they sell freshly prepared salads and sweet dessert empanadas as well.
